Besides the fact we are guaranteed a spot, I dont see us having a true "lock"

castillo this year :whistle

tell me why he is a lock

He's a four tool player, and have you looked at NL second baseman lately?

Only one who I'd consider taking ahead of Castillo is Mark Loretta.

dont forget that Kent, Vidro, Giles, and even Durham could be an all star

OK, Kent's best years are behind him, Giles may get voted in, but Durham won't, and Vidro probably will be because the Nationals need a representative.

However, knowing that LaRussa can only pick two reserves and the rest are voted in by the players, I'm confident in saying that Kent will not get voted in, and that Castillo's presence as the reigning Gold Glove Second-baseman for two consecutive years will increase his chances.

And, with Cabrera and Delgado behind him, he's going to have a ton of runs-scored by the break, that could be the tie-breaker (if his superior defensive ability isn't already) if Castillo/Giles/Vidro all have a BA above .300 (and Loretta's voted in).

giles is an injury prone player, kent is not good defense wise and durham is not at the same level defense wise as castillo...and castillo will be a 300 at the break and have a 3rd gold glove...

He is the best leadoff man in the league and second best in all of baseball behind Ichiro.

defense is rarely considered when talking about the All Star game

 I would put Giles ahead of Luis assuming Giles stays healthy
