VC (43pts) gets ejected early in 4th

Featured Replies

You may remember Bruce Bowen putting his foot under Vince as he landed on a jumper a few years ago causing Vince to turn his ankle and get hurt. Bowen ahs always shut down Vince but not tongiht. Vince had 42 through the first 3 quarters.

Vince took a fadeway jumper and Bowen got in Vince's way. Carter got upset and charged at him getting his 2nd T and getting ejected for the first time ever. No career high tonight, probably no win either. Very bizarre scene.

Was Vince right?

By BILL HARRIS -- Toronto Sun

Sorry about that, Vince. Yours truly was among those who cynically rolled their eyes on Feb. 18 when Vince Carter of the Raptors hinted at foul play after he had sprained his left ankle. After elevating for a jump shot, Carter landed on the foot of Bruce Bowen of the San Antonio Spurs during a game at the Air Canada Centre. Carter's lower leg bent grotesquely as it took his weight and the injury actually could have been a lot worse than it was.

Later in the Toronto locker room, a dour Carter suggested Bowen's foot might have been placed in a dangerous spot deliberately.

"I question if it was an accident," Carter said.

Yeah, sure. Nothing like deflecting attention away from another injury. Just Vince being Vince, right?

Well, the hue and cry about Bowen has intensified around the league this season. Ray Allen of the Seattle SuperSonics is among those to complain, stating after a game against Bowen and the Spurs that "I've never been so mad on the court. I wanted to fight him."

The most recent accusation about Bowen came from Dallas Mavericks coach Don Nelson. Bowen planted a forearm into Mavs guard Michael Finley last Friday and while Finley was ejected for retaliating, Bowen went unpunished. The Dallas organization subsequently was incredulous that Bowen wasn't suspended by the league for his actions.

"You now can put me down as one of the many who have called (Bowen) dirty," Nelson said. "I've never cast an aspersion toward him before, but he's a dirty player. And I'll remember it. I'm shocked he wasn't suspended."

Finley went so far as to suggest anyone considering voting for Bowen as the league's defensive player of the year should re-examine his tactics.

Now, this is not to say definitively that Bowen intentionally tried to injure Carter. No one ever can know what was in Bowen's head except Bowen himself, and the video evidence was not conclusively damning.

But the point is, it was wrong to dismiss Carter's words immediately. Maybe you were right, Vince.

This was from a few years back.

43 points in 37 minutes. He was gonna shatter NJ's franchise record against a dude that always shuts him down but whatever. 80-80 with 7 minutes left.

vince is damn stupid.

that kinda happens when you throw your legs out wildly.

way to stick around for your team vince.

smart like usual.

He cost his team the game but they didnt have a chance unless he scored 50 anyways. I'd usually be upset but Bowen and Vince have a history so I'm actually kinda of proud of him.

Counting a illegal 3 second call Vince got 3 technicals. That's pretty cool.

Not playing like a wimp and playing mad liek that. Woulda been cool if he beat the s*** out of Bowen but I guess its better that he'll play Sunday.

I don't see how any one on the Nets could be mad. He had like 39 of their first 62 points or something crazy like that so they weren't gonna have a chance at competing without him.

Bowen is ghey.

could that be why?

it looked like he tried taking Vince out again

*waits for another replay*

That was a phantom T...

What happened to superstars getting calls?

Its not like he hit him or bumped him or anything...He was just running in his area when a referee stopped him about 10 feet before he got there.

I dont have a problem with Bruce's defense, being a pesky prick who sometimes does dirty things is apart of the game. The T is where I have the problem.

Since when do NBA superstars get ejected while having the game of their lives? Especially when in a normal situation, Im not sure any other player wouldve gotten a T. I actually wonder if it wasnt an anti-vince bias.

Luckily, Im used to it, being a Net fan is the hardest occupation in the NBA.

I think Bowen just tripped and because Bruce wrecked Vince's last season on a similar play that was dirty, Vince took exception..

Come on Das, you know if someone had ruined your last season you would remember it, in a similar play you wouldve been pissed off too.

PS - Looked to me like Bowen was intentionally backing up into Vinces legs after watching another replay, maybe it was intentionally dirty.

Again, here's the bottom line.

Vince cost his team the game. No ifs ands or buts.

Two, if Vince were to jump up and land with both feet on the ground like most normal people this never happens.

Three, Vince was just showing his displeasure that someone was in his grill.

If it was so bad, how come the ref, looking directly at the play didnt blow his whistle.

or last year?

Because it wasnt. Basketball is a physical game. Vince is softer than Charmin.

Yeah, the man softer than charmin was single handedly beating the best team in the NBA.

Ill take him on my team any day.

Sorry, that you cant admit your player is dirty (like I said not that there is really anything wrong with it). Your an intelligent guy, but unfortunately your just like me, your a homer.

If dirty is being a tough in your face defender than Bowen is dirty.

Of note: every defensive 'specialist' has been labeled as dirty in thier careers in the history of hte NBA.

So Vince was going off....it happens. He couldnt miss until the fourth...players go off some nights, thats how the NBA works. I'd trust that the Spurs would shut down Vince more often than not.

Kinda how the Spurs shut down the Nets in 2003.

Couldnt miss UNTIL the fourth? He didnt even get to play the fourth.

I also notice how you resort to attacking the Nets past because you know you were getting dominated tonight by a 1 man team. I hope you enjoyed it, I enjoyed squashing you greatly until the referees gave you the game.

Enjoy it.
