Lowell vs the steroid era

Recommended Posts

Its clear that baseball is in the juiced ball era or at least the tail end of it. I was looking at Lowell's number's in light of a Rob Neyer article discussing what numbers today would be comparable to the 70s and was wondering how much more of a star Lowell would be if this were any other era. I came to the conclusion that Lowell would still be a really good but not necessarily superstar level third baseman.

What do others think?

that would have to exlude guys like Arod, Chipper, and Huff right?

We will have to see how consistent Beltre and Ramirez stay.

But I think Lowell's offensive numbers dont stick out the way other players do and Im wondering if thats because of the era he plays in or because his numbers arent really worthy of sticking out.

Well, I still consider AROD a SS, Chipper switches positions every year, as does Aubrey Huff (who I believe is playing right this year).

Jones only played 2 years anywhere other than 3B. I'd say you're just being a homer.

Mikey, along with Scott Rolen, wouldn't really have a huge difference for them because they are already the top two third basemen in the game.
