The last time the Stanley Cup Finals were cancelled was the same year the red Sox last won the WS, 1919.

Is it coinidental or ironic?

I think you mean white sox.

ironic, ironical

characterized by often poignant difference or incongruity between what is expected and what actually is; "madness, an ironic fate for such a clear thinker"; "it was ironical that the well-planned scheme failed so completely"

This definition is seriously needed. Over the last 3 days people have used the word ironic when they obviously have no clue what it means.

ITS COINCIDENTAL!

DEAR GOD!

Ya didn't they throw the series for money hence the reason the baseball gods have not allowed them to win a WS since

He's right. The 1919 cancelled Cup series came just a few months after the Red Sox won the World Series.

Nevermind the Red Sox barely won the pennant that last year and may not had WWI ended the season early.

So by this explanation the Red Sox winning the WS in 1919 and the last time the Stanley Cup was cancelled is ironic and coincidental. The Red Sox should never win a WS, because it is NOT expected, it is just coincidental that the Stanley Cup happen to be ancelled that year.

No, it was the Red Sox.

I think we should just make up a word on the forum that represents coincidence and irony all mangled into one definition so as not to upset the flatulent PhishPhan.

Well the red sox won it in 1918. Like they won it in 2004 not 2005.

Yes, exactly. Baseball season ends right around the same time hockey season begins.

Right and the 2005 stanley cup has been cancelled. Not the 2004 one.

Like the 1919 stanley cup was canelled. And the red sox won the 1918 WS.

Twins won the 1919 one.

So the Twins won the WS in 1919.
