This is the hypocrisy that America is famous for, loving, praising and worshipping a player to god-like status when he is admittedly on Andro... but drawing the line when he is potentially on steroids. I mean honestly, what type of moron would love and cherish a man and his baseball records ten days ago when he was admittedly on Andro, but now change his mind simply because McGwire did not want to put himself, his family or friends under public or government scrutiny?

I never cared for McGwire personally. It was great to watch him and Sammy attack baseball's single-season home run record. But even at 12 years old I understood his records for what they were; a record tainted by Andro when viewed with all of baseball's history, but a record that symbolizes the modern era of baseball perfectly.

Then you have all these twit senators and congressmen who do not see this as an oppurtunity to save the youth of today's society from hardship, but see this congressional hearing as a way to run for re-election off the free TV time in their backwater, podunk state. All the producers and manufacturers and smugglers of steroids need to do is form a Political Action Comitee, PAC, and donate vast sums of undeclared money to key senators and congressmen and not only will there be NO hearing, but they will get approval from the FDA and all other governmental agencies that are there to "protect" the citizens within three buisness days. I wont even bring into light the Military's and government's goal of producing the "perfect" soldier through Gene manipulation....

Gas prices are doubling, our sons and daughters are fighting overseas and dying, but thank god we took care of steroid use in professional baseball, the world will keep turning now.

It wasn't the whole congress. This was heard by a committee, a group of select members. The group that heard this yesterday hears health issues on a normal basis, FDA sort of stuff. And correct me if I am wrong, but sterioids would fall under FDA stuff.

Great post, Accord... This hearing was a total waste of time. Everyone knew there were problems with steroids. Why is Congress worried now all of a sudden? Cause an idiot named Canseco wrote a book?

You totally missed the point.

No I am not. If memory serves me right this hearing was not just about use of steroids in the MLB. Once again let me know if I am wrong here.

Yes they incorporated MLB in the process, but why not? MLB is the biggest sport in our nation that gets a hell of a lot of publicity and notice. The NFL certainly lets it known what they think about steroid use, baseball... not so much. The message was sent yesterday to MLB to clean it up, or someone else will clean it up for them.

it wasnt a waste of time, these players are cheating and braking the Law...they saw baseball wasnt doing anything about it so i for 1 am glad that the goverment steped in....now selig needs to step down and we need someone that gonna go in there and do the job...

I've hated all these cheating bastards as long as i've been aware steroids existed (I thought the 1998 steroid juiced home run race was a fraud as it happened) so your talking to the wrong man.

In general your right thought, America is hypocritical and stupid, but that's not exactly breaking news, and it also applies to Congress.

And I'm sticking with what I said in regards of maybe the motives of Congress for having these hearings are wrong, but in general, it's good for baseball.

EVERYBODY to some degree that testified from baseball yesterday looked like a total moron and got owned badly, and if there are more of these hearings, eventually baseball WILL HAVE TO get it's act together in steroid prevention.

Don't forget the corker Sammy Sosa. Oh, wait, steroids are bad. Corked bats and the ampethamines that players in the 60s, 70s and early 80s were taking aren't.

Its not congress' place to decide what it cheating for baseball. Corking is not illegal in America. Using steroids is, as well as ampethamines. There is evidence that links many baseball players, including high profiled players to steroids, not so much to amphethamines anymore.

Sure, seemed Congress thought it was their place. If you listened to Jim Bunning, you'd think it was Congress' place to punish all the players who finished their careers with numbers better than him and his peers, oh, btw, of the ampethamine age.

I really couldn't give a damn about steroids, corked bats, or any thing else. I love baseball if it's played by gentlemen or crooks, cheats and liars. If it's a pitching duel or a 20-17 game, I don't care, if it's baseball I'll love it. Whether it's played by children, major leaguers, robots, bush leaguers, etc.

I'm just surprised why so many so-called baseball fans care so much. Are you hearts that full of hate that you have to out certain players as cheaters? Can't you just love the game? It's not as if they're fixed. This is just another batch of players taking advantage of loopholes. Close the loophole if you wish, but don't blame the players for exploiting those loopholes. They're doing nothing worse than the pioneers of baseball. Don't blame those in power for not addressing the so-called problem as soon as you wish. They don't have complete control of the game and may not be as tuned into the problem as you are.

Fans don't want to be lied to. You lie to fans thats it, its over. Bonds, Giambi as well as others have lied to fans. Fans want the truth.

If you do steroids you are not just breaking the rules of baseball, you are breaking the laws of the nation. And I am sure more of the fans who want the players' heads that do steroids would also want them to do hard-time for the laws they break. And you are blaming them for that?

Baseball players make a heck of a lot of money, and that puts them on a pedistal, if they like it or not. Accordingly, people feel they should live up to certain virtues. It comes with the territory.

So how do fans show their distaste? They are vocal about the players who they feel broke the rules and lied to them. I doubt many baseball fans have exactly positive views of Selig or Fehr, but they are not in the public view like the players are.

You don't buy Bud Selig jerseys. You buy Giambi jerseys, Bonds jerseys, McGwire and Canseco jerseys. You root these people on with your heart. And then to find out them, or other players may not be the most virtuous, yeah they can get hurt and I won't blame them.

I think this case may be a bit about taking revenge against the most powerful union of the US. And that's the MLBPA.

However, I see a lot of positives coming out of this. This is going to be good for baseball, other sports and most importantly good for new generations.

MLBPA and the MLB thinks they own the game and that's wrong. There is so much history and too many fans that want the integrity of the game preserved.

When these pompus millionaires start f**ing with history, you are going to get some people upset.

That's not true, Schilling was awesome.

Another ridiculous rferry statement.

I do hope these fans realize that they don't own Major League Baseball. Should they like to test that by boycotting, the league will survive long enough to pick up other fans.

No one is talking about boycotting. Looks like congress is going to stear MLB on the right direction.

If only they could do it out of the sight of the largely irrational public. Steroids is a ethical problem off the field. Possession and use without the proper medical clearance is an legal problem for all sports on all levels off the field. If Congress, MLB and MLBPA feel that they need to take a stand, so be it. I support them in their efforts... up to the point one of them starts abusing their power against eachother.

I just don't see where Congress and fans feel baseball and its players need to be held to a higher standard. That they need to act to put a stop to the problem. The problem did not start with baseball and it won't end with baseball! It will end when Congress tightens control of the performance enhancers and its industry. I love baseball and admire some ballplayers, but I don't expect them to set the moral standards of our country. I only expect them to follow the moral standards of the general populance that they are drawn from. And don't tell me they're role models. As someone who would probably be at most risk to adopt the habits of these male superstar athletes, I don't buy it.

How odd of you to pick the two that have spoken out against steroid users.

I guess you didn't notice that Schilling was arguing on behalf of the union and against the abusive testing policies you wish Congress would impose.
