Posted March 29, 200520 yr Chargers trade Philip Rivers to SF for the no.1 pick so that SD can draft Braylon Edwards. Per PTI. Thoughts?
March 29, 200520 yr Would be a great trade for SD. Improve their offense even more and still bolster the defense with the other two picks. The alternative is having Rivers wasting money on the bench. They should pull it off immediatley.
March 30, 200520 yr It works for the Chargers, unless Brees' season last year was a fluke. 723786[/snapback] It was. If I'm the Chargers, I hold off. The longer Rivers is on the bench, the more value he has. Lots of football knowledge coupled with a fresh body is an attractive proposition for many teams.

The trend of giving #1 picks for players/coaches is disappearing which is why I think the Chargers need to pounce. The Dolphins couldnt get anything for Surtain and he is more proven, all be it at a less impact position, than Rivers. Edwards is almost a sure thing player whereas Rivers could easily go the way of Tim Couch.
March 31, 200520 yr It's amazing to me that Phillip Rivers went from a low 2nd rounder to a guy who's worthy of a 1st overall pick in the NFL draft in just one season without playing more than a few downs of football in that season.

I lived in N.C State Country 2 years ago for his freshman and sophomore seasons and after Koren Robinson, the guy was basically the whole team. As an FSU fan you should know firsthand how nearly by himself he got multiple wins off the Seminoles.

He was great at NCState though.
