Posted May 18, 200520 yr looking at the box score once again tonight it looks as though Jim Crowell and Travis Smith belong on a major league roster... jim crowell gets the award for tonight 1.1 innings pitched . 6 hits 6 earned runs 1 home run 2 hit by pitches and his era is now a microscopic 21.60. not bad for a rookie :thumbup . travis smith however bringing it up the rear with a .1 innings pitched with 2 hits a run and a walk.. his era is now 8.10 although i'm sort of a nate bump fan its hard to overlook .1 innings pitched with 4 hits and 3 runs whatever it is theres no reason why we should score 5 runs and not win the game... can't wait for spooney alfonseca and mota to get back.
May 18, 200520 yr Bump has had a solid season up until last night, so I am not worried about him. Smith and Crowell do not belong in the big leagues. Smith should also be sent down.
May 18, 200520 yr From Willis to Bump to Smith and Crowell, the Marlins pitchers failed to execute, I'm not going to argue the point. Placing blame is fruitless but you have to look to Nate Bump's performance as what killed the Marlins chances to stay within reach of victory last night. At least Willis pitched well enough to keep the Marlins wthin striking distance. By the time Bump was done the game was lost and yes, the guys mopping up failed miserably, but these things happen. The night before the Marlins banged out 16 hits, last night the Dodgers had nineteen. Good offensive teams are going get their share of hits and as Jack so often says, winning teams add on runs. When three guys in a row have hit ahead of you, you go to the plate believing you're going to get a hit too. You see pitches differently when you have a big lead, the pressure is off. I know what the genesis of this thread is and I stand by what I said in previous threads, that both Crowell and Smith earned the right to be in the MLs based on their performances in spring training and into the minor league season. Last night they weren't effective, heck they failed when called upon. But at the same time you have to recognize Bump's failings and give some credit to the LA hitters who made the most of the situation. Luckily, there's another game today. Go Fish !
May 18, 200520 yr I am sorry, but there is a reason why the Braves got rid of Travis Smith. The guy pitched for St. Louis in 2002 (7.17 ERA), and for the Braves last year (6.20 ERA). There is also a reason why Jim Crowell only had 4 games and 3 innings pitched for the phillies last year. These two guys have no excuse whatsoever to support their being in a major league roster. The only reason they are here is because Alfonseca and Mota got hurt. Crowell is gone. Spooney is doing pretty well in his rehabilitation. Mota is almost there. I'll be a happy man when I don't have to see Travis Smith coming out of the bullpen again.
May 18, 200520 yr I think they didn't call up Messenger or another reliever because Mota will probably be back within a week or less.

May 19, 200520 yr No more AAA pitchers!! Both are gone for now. 777673[/snapback] Yeah but now we have AA pitcher Logan Kensing, so lets see how much of an improvement that is.
