Los Gigantes de San Francisco

I just spoke to an old spanish speaking teacher of mine who has been teaching for 45 years and she says the Angeles would translate to Los Angeles. BUT in the case of the baseball team it would translate to Los Angelinos de Los Angeles.

I have never heard them called the Angelinos in all the years of have followed baseball and spoken Spanish. They have always been the Angels or Los Angeles. Sorry to burst your bubble, but that is how it is. Los Angelinos is bastardized 100% as it is not based on the real Spanish form of the word or the brand name of the team.

Maybe you guys don't realize, but no matter what you say, the other isn't going to change their opinion.

Let it go.

Then you have been living in a cave for your whole life.

Sorry to burst your bubble but it's Los Angelinos.

The teacher that gave the info has written two books in Spanish, taught english and spanish classes for 45 years, and is a walking grammar (spanish and english) book.

I'm going to take her word, El Nuevo Herald and the other 2184644814561161469498464684968456463215897 websites that state "Los Angelinos" over yours.

I hope anyone that reads this thread does the same.

BTW: People from Los Angeles are called Los Angelinos so yes it is a word not this bastardization crap Cape keeps talking about.

You used Los Angelinos to describe the Angels Baseball Team. It is not their name officially in Spanish and would never be used on a jersey. If they were to write "Angels" in Spanish the same way the Giants did they would write "Angels" or "Angeles."

Angelinos may be what you are used to, but it is incorrect.

A Los Angelino is a term made up in the English language to describe someone who is of Los Angeles, California.

He is right. They may be called Angelinos, but the correct translation is Los Angeles. No porfien! :lol

I grew up in Puerto Rico, have lived in Dominican Republic.

"Los Angelinos" is what is used. Also I have heard los "Serafines de California".

Los Angeles is used for the city, that's why I think is not commonly used for the team.

btw, I think Serafines is the correct name

sorry Cape, you are wrong on this one :thumbup

I agree. Nothing is more fun then seeing Cape get bitched down.

Word.

This thread is awesome.

Angelinos is not right. Not a thing you can do to make it right unless you get the Congress of the Language to change ?ngeles to ?ngelinos. Good Luck with that.

you being stubborn doesn't make it wrong either :)

There are a lot of words that are wrong (but are commonly used), but finally are accepted

I already explained to you that my teacher said in all other cases it's translated "Los Angeles", but in this case it's written "Los Angelinos de Los Angeles".

Whatever Cape, it's obvious I'm not changing your opinion even thought I have provided facts. Every spanish newspaper in America and Latin America refers to them as Los Angelinos de Los Angeles. I don't see how hundreds and hundreds of writers and media people can be wrong on such a simple subject.

I suggest you get out of Capeland for awhile and accept the fact you won't be right all the time. If you go your whole life like that you won't have many friends, instead a lot of enemies.

Last thing the bad spanish translating software everyone uses according to you translates the name "Los Angeles de Los Angeles".

I'm done for now.
