May 29, 200519 yr Tommy asked if he could take it back after, lol. But personally, I wouldn't have gave him the green light. We were going to have bases loaded and 0 outs.
May 30, 200519 yr And instead we had bases empty with no outs. Carlos Delgado has earned the right to be able to swing when he pleases. Now if only he could bunt against the shift from time to time :shifty
May 30, 200519 yr As a person who hasn't been a baseball fan for a long time, I must say that I have absolutely no problem with players going away from the "ceremony" of the game and playing to win the game. It's always bugged me that baseball has tried to be too gentlemanly in these situations. If you get a meatball on 3-0, the dude should be all over it regardless if he's a superstar or the 25th man on the roster. Anyway, that's my rant for the night.
May 30, 200519 yr If he sees the pitch and it has homerun written all over it he should go after it. What's the worst thing that can happen? 3-1 count? That was an awesome hit :thumbup

It's not really a matter of being a gentleman - you take the 3-0 pitch cuz the pitcher just threw three balls, and the chances are pretty good he's going to throw ball four.

Most of the time the fourth pitch is a meatball right down the middle for strike one.
May 30, 200519 yr At times, however the chances of making an out by swinging at the 3-0 pitch are greater than the odds of getting a homer ball, so you're better off taking it unless you're absolutely sure you're going to do something sexy with it.
