Posted June 1, 200519 yr Ivan Rodriguez says he has fracture in right hand May 31, 2005 DETROIT (AP)-- Detroit catcher Ivan Rodriguez said he has a fracture in his right hand, but expects to continue playing despite the injury. Rodriguez was hurt when he was hit by a foul tip in the top of the ninth inning of the Tigers' 8-2 loss to the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night. Vance Wilson hit for him in the bottom of the inning. ``The X-rays show that I have a fracture,'' Rodriguez said. ``I'm a tough guy, I'm going to play, no matter what.'' He said he would see a doctor on Wednesday. Tigers manager Alan Trammell said Rodriguez was hit around the bottom of the thumb in the area near the palm. The team made no official comment. ``If I can squeeze a bat or throw, I'll play,'' Rodriguez said.
June 1, 200519 yr Ummm, a broken hand and a fractured hand are not the same things... 791691[/snapback] yes they are
June 1, 200519 yr Tigers need him in the lineup and contributing if they have any hope of contending at all (that and a Chicago collapse)

June 5, 200519 yr They're 10 games back of the White Sox and 5.5 behind the Twins. It doesn't look like they're going to do much there, so why take a risk of getting even more hurt? The Tigers even with Pudge aren't good enough, and I'm sure they want to have Pudge for next year, so I really don't see why they would want to have him chancing anything. But since he says he's going to play through it, it's probably not so bad. If it was bad he would sit out since his team isn't going anywhere anyways.
