Posted June 5, 200519 yr 1st inning Leiter in rare form tonight, hits 2 batters then gives up a 3-run double. Game over. (marlins sure as hell aren't scoring 4 runs) 14 LOB tonight. This team is lifeless right now. 3 straight series losses.
June 5, 200519 yr Mota got us way to far for us to catch up, confidence and momentum goes down if your a hitter going into the top of the 9th.
June 5, 200519 yr For those who thought Joe Dillon would be the savior (and those who think Willy will be), I hope you've seen the light by now. I wonder how different the game would've gone if Leiter had left with the game tied instead of us down by one.
June 5, 200519 yr Why do you think Damion didn't play tonight? After how well he swung the bat yesterday, I would have thought we'd see him again.
June 5, 200519 yr I think leiter pitched great side the first inning he was great, he kept us in the game which is what you ask for from a #5 starter which i thik he should be classified as. Guillermo Mota Struggled, but what i did like was that when jack took him out he sure gave him a piece of his mind.

Either way, 4 runs in 5 innings is slop. The Marlins can't score 5 runs these days, so 4 runs in 5 IP isn't good enough.
June 5, 200519 yr not sure what was up with Mota. I didn't watch, but I was listening to Felo on spanish radio and he was complaining about Mota using his fastball too much against Nick Johnson.
June 5, 200519 yr This team needs a kick in the rear. Something. Anything. They're often a step late to each ball. They hack at breaking balls and watch strikes. They lob balls to the cut-off man with runners on base. 2-out hits followed by the demoralizing third out. Cautious on the basepaths, foregoing bases they easily could have taken on the throw. No pep talks with the pitcher. Nothing. They can't win, they can't be happy, they don't play to win. BTW, terrible call by Jack to bring in the infield in the 8th. Runners on with 0 outs calls for you to get as many outs as possible in the situation. Preventing that 6th run does nothing. Suppose the runner is thrown out at home, which rarely happens, there's absolutly no chance you're going to catch Guzman at first base for the second out. The 6th run is now on second base with 1 out. Same difference, and that's IF it works. His head has not been in the game either.
June 5, 200519 yr Mota looked okay to me. He wasn't very sure of his fastball and got burned with some poor change-ups. Church's hit is a double if Enc plays with any effort, and little chance he scores if the defense can play at normal depth for the following batters. The run he gave up in the 7th was pure hustle on the part of Jamey Carroll. The way JP and Luiy used to create runs out of nothing.

If they do bring him up, he'll ride the pine just like Dillon. I can't believe the people that thought Dillon would play enough to be any kind of a savior.
