June 6, 200521 yr If Ozzie Guillen were still here, the decision would be a little easier, but short of Mordy (yeah...), there isn't anyone in the organization who's capable of replacing him. I'd like him to stay, there's only so much he can do, he didn't make Peri-choke throw the gopher ball, and he needed a lefty matchup.
June 6, 200521 yr He was even manager of the year in 1999, but that didn't stop the Reds from feeling he wasn't getting it done in 2000. 797285 I vaguely recall part of the reason for Jack's dismissal from Cincy involving Jr. I could be wrong but I remember something about that. 797290 Yeah I think they didn't get along and also the front office thought that the team should have made the playoffs after they signed Griffey, which of course they didn't and haven't.
June 8, 200521 yr most people didn't predict the marlins to do anything in 2004 - between offseason losses, injuries, and hurricanes, it was an achievement to stay in contention until mid-late september. it was a disappointing season for fans who wanted a repeat but i dont think it was objectively underachieving. his record in cincinatti was pretty good, i dont remember the details of the firing but i do remember a lot of people thinking he got a raw deal from the ownership.
June 8, 200521 yr That's not true, J.A., review your 2004 annuals again. Although they weren't the clear favorites the Cubs, Phillies, Red Sox and Yankees were, the Marlins were expected to contend and possibly win the NL East.
