July 30, 200323 yr If I remember correctly, Vlad is going to be a free agent this offseason - and probably the most important one out there. There is a lot of speculation that the big market teams will move in to get him, and rightfully so, but there is a lot made out about his character that states he doesnt want to play in the spotlight like NYC, etc. There is a rumor out there that the Yanks are trying to get him from the Expos. I dont know if Vlad has a no-trade clause or anyway to veto a trade to the Yanks because according to reports about his lack of desire to play in NYC he may veto such a deal. Of course, the Expos do not really have a choice but to deal him or lose him - and considering that they are owned by everyother big league ballclub, they may choose to not sink more money into the Expos and find a new owner for the team. Basically, I am wondering if the Marlins have a chance to sign him as a free agent of even to bust in and trade for him right now. I dont know what kind of prospects we would have to give up, but if we put him in RF and kept Cabs, I would include Encarnacion in the deal. I am just babbling, but something tells me this situation should be monitored...
July 30, 200323 yr i am sure i is being monitored but i dont see Vlad going anywhere till the offseason
July 30, 200323 yr i can see em leaving, depened on what the baseball owners do.. but i cant really see him goiing anywhere cuz this Xpo team thinks they can get that WIld Card i mean they did try to go after Juan Gone rmemember so i dnt think there throwin in the Towel yet........ Trade RAMP 4 Pokey Reese...... That would be a great trade, Pokey is a stud
July 30, 200323 yr Author I agree that nothing likely will happen til offseason, because the Expos FO will know what money they have and what to do with it. Also, they may get bought then and Vlad makes them a more appealing product to sell. But the Yanks are trying to make a deal, apparently offering Nick Johnson and Claussen for him, or that is what I have seen rumored. If the Yanks knock them over with a deal, the Expos may make a deal...but they may want to see other offers first. I would love to see us swoop in and steal a deal from the Yanks... :w00t I know, I can dream...
July 30, 200323 yr There was once a conspiricy theory that Florida would acquire him after the season. It was actually quite a legit theory. But I tihnk that theory has all but faded, seeing that the only way that it would have worked is if we had a losing season.
July 30, 200323 yr If we were to trade for him the deal would have to include Juan Enc, one of Bautista/Hutch and one of Stokes/Hermida...and possibly one other prospect...dont see it likely at all as we wont have the revenue to pay a player like that until we are in our own stadium and the devil isnt taking all the profits.
July 30, 200323 yr how much money can he command during the offseason? i dont think any of the small market teams, including the Marlins, can get him if its as high as i think. look at what happened to the Reds after getting Griffey, with all the money locked up on him they couldnt make any more moves and all his injuries really messed them up. small market clubs are better off not getting him because of his price tag
