I invite all the members of marlinsbaseball.com to work to make a difference in this world.

You may have heard of the campaign in many loacles, it has slowly grown over the past few months.

Here is what the campaign is all about taken from the website:

ONE is a new effort by Americans to rally Americans ? ONE by ONE ? to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. The ONE Campaign is engaging Americans through a diverse coalition of faith-based and anti-poverty organizers to show the steps people can take, ONE by ONE, to fight global AIDS and poverty.

All that you need to do is sign the petition that you are united in this fight. No money required, no commitement required. Just your signature.

The only way to make this world a truly better world for all of us is to be an active citizenry. Eliminating poverty and global AIDS is step one. Poverty existing all over the world, believe it or not, it even exists in our own backyard.

I first became aware of this issue back in 1999ish. At that time the best source was The Hunger Site Great resource and I would encourage all to go there as well. Donate a couple of cups of food there.

So go here:

ONE

Speak up. Prove that ONE voice can truly make a difference. Its all about ONE. Whether you decide to support the organization financially or not thats up to you. Just commit yourself to the declaration thats the entire goal as the ONE organzation works to their goal next July.

Join them. I hope to see you there

(If you spam up this thread, I'm going to kick your asses)

Here's my problem with this. I think it's a noble cause but to be honest with you. It seems every few years their seems to be a new cause that Hollywood tells me I have to work for. Remember how everyone was on A Free Tibet binge in the late 90's.

I see the working class in this country struggling to get by and they are the first one's I care about. I hope Africa straightens itself out but my priorities when it comes to charity is towards funding education and hopefully better healthcare for the working class in this country.

I support that you're passionate about this cause and I truly do respect that and appreciate it that you care but at this time I have higher priorities when it comes to social causes.

Celebrities are only those names you hear. This has been largely spearheaded by the citizenry and many amazing organizations that have been working for years on causes such as these. Some of those organizations:

Bread for the World Institute

CareUSA

DATA

International Medical Corps

OxFam America

If you know anything about any of these or the numerous organizations fully supporting this campaign, you would know that its not just about the celebrities and whatever their soup of the day is. Pay less attention to the messenger and about the message behind it.

And like I said, poverty is not exclusive to Africa. One of the poorest regions in the western hemisphere is not in Central America or South America.....its in the United States. Food for thought.

PS...with all the food we waste, we could feed the entire third world yearly.

Ok, thanks for the information I will check it out, now. It's a lot better hearing it from a regular person than a celebrity who has a new cause every day.

Das...What exactly does my signature on the petition do?

the more names, the more pressure on the world leaders to take real efforts to eradicate poverty and global AIDS instead of just paying the usual lip service they do now.

I signed it. Good cause. We definetly need more pressure on world leaders because none of them care. In Africa, I have yet to see one single leader of a country attempt to fight AIDS. Then again, they don't have any resources whatsoever to do so in many of these countries because countries like the US care more about nonsensical invasions than social issues. I wonder if Bush ever thought that if he made a social war on the poverty, hunger, AIDS, you name it, in the world, that he might just win over many people in the world.

It still exists. Guess it wasnt just a little fad. :lol

and going stronger, they have added more and more partners they work with and are still continuing to help make real change in this here world we live in.

with so many of you being college students, i would think there would actually be a higher percentage of activists. I guess most of my kind are actually out and about trying to save the world and not blabbering on a message board.
