Marlins hit new TV peak

Dontrelle Willis and the Marlins keep setting ratings records.

Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks -- Willis' 10th victory -- was the Fox Sports Net Florida's highest-rated game this season in the Fort Lauderdale-Miami market and the best in six seasons.

It did a 5.94, peaking at 8.85 for the 9:30-9:45 p.m. quarter hour.

Wednesday's rating followed a 5.0 for Tuesday's game againts the Diamondbacks.

The Marlins have hit the 5.0 ratings mark four times this season. They had 5.4 ratings on July 2 (Willis against the Cubs) and July 7 (against the Cubs).

Willis has figured in three of the top five ratings this season. The rookie sensation started the upward trend when his June 11 start against the Cardinals did a 4.4.

The Marlins finished July with a 3.89 average on FSN, continuing a mighty ratings climb. The Marlins averaged 3.50 in June, 2.50 in May and 2.32 in April.

One rating point represents approximately 15,500 television households in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale market.

Wednesday's Diamondbacks-Marlins telecast on ESPN2 (blacked out in South Florida) had a .53 national rating, which translates to 440,000 households. ESPN2 has been averaging a .55 for its Wednesday games.

YES THEY WILL.

This is just the cherry to your cake's icing, but Fox Sports Net Florida has only carried the Marlins since 1997 (when FSN and Sunshine both carried cable games) and it's only been six seasons :D

On Wednesday?

Because it was sold out! :w00t

took the words right out of mouth

and sunshine blows, nole and gator loving trash

Wayne H. used to own the Dolphins, Marlins, and Panthers as you know. Well he tried pull off an early version of the YES Network (Yankees, Nets, and Devils) by buying FSN Florida (SportsChannel Florida) and moving all his teams there. When he realized it wasn't great money like he thought, he signed the Marlins and Panthers to long term (2011) deals and sold the teams and channel. The Dolphins are now back on Sunshine.

But I prefer FSN since they have a good presentation of all sports compared to Sunshine's older presentation.
