August 4, 200322 yr Finally the Pack has a decent TE tandem. Wesley Walls has signed a one year deal to play with the Pack. Franks and Walls. That probably means by-by Tyrone Davis. But Walls has been one of the best TE's around the past 10 years and is one of the best blocking and recieving TE's and the Packers now have 2 great TE's. All be it Walls is on the older side and this is probably his last season. This reminds me of when the Pack signed Keith Jackson in 1996 for a years contract, Jackson retired after the season, but caught 11 TDs and snagged a Super Bowl ring. But Green Bay has no shot of Super Bowl with teams like Tampa and Tennessee in the way. :angry

August 4, 200322 yr Author Minus your absolutely right. He's old. But this is probably his last year. Wesley Walls to me is a mirror image of Keith Jackson (TE- Philadelphia, Green Bay) and should help remind Packers fans of the Chmura/Jackson combo. Although this is the Franks/Walls combo. I really like this addition because this is going to help Green Bay's Offense against teams that run "Cover 2" defenses. Because the Cover 2 puts 2 safetys playing deep behind the Cornerbacks. That way it takes away the option of the deep ball. Making the offenses take 5-15 yd. passes, instead of anything explosively deep like 20+ yds. Because now the Packers deep threats like Driver, Walker, and Ferguson will have the mid to deep field range open because Franks and Walls can open up the short to mid range passes. And with the short to mid range passes, that keeps LB's on the TE's. And with the LB's occupied, you have our RB's who run the famous "Packer Screen" which is one of the most effective plays in all of the NFL. And so with the TE's occupying LB's and a safety and LB taking care of the RB's on the "Packers Screen". That leaves 3 DB's on Driver and whoever else is along side him. And so with teams that have Cover 2's like Tampa and Minnesota who give Favre fits (Favre threw 9 of his 15 INT's last year against Tampa & Minnesota), will be spread out. And when Favre's recievers are single covered....LOOK OUT! :mischief :w00t Overall though, this is great because now the Packers can run the offensive formation that scored them 400+ points in '96 and '97. Because the 2 TE formation is the best formation for the type of offense Green Bay runs. Because with the 2 TE Formation, you can run the screen like Green Bay loves to run. And you can throw deep for Favre. And then you can take your mid range shots to the TE for efficiency. And Franks and/or Walls are both competent blockers for screens. Overall Wesley Walls that 2nd TE that the Packers have needed to open up their whole offense. Because without that 2nd TE there was a lot of road blocks for the already potent Packers offense.
August 5, 200322 yr Author Well thats the thing. I just called on the Packer Radio Network with Bill Michaels and Brian Noble. And to make it effective we'd need to stretch the field. But with what I layed out they and a few callers agreed is that, we can set the field into 3 zones and make the defense cover the 3 zones. By covering the RB's on the screen, the TE's in the middle, and the WR's over top and that spreads the defense like butter on bread. And with single coverage on his WR's Brett Favre is the best QB there is with that. And so really its all predicated on Walls health. But the worry in Packer land about Franks isn't his blocking, its his Yards after the Catch (YAC) because without the YAC Franks can't become a deep threat of 15+ yds and stretch the field for Brett and open the screens up on the bottom. But what he does that made the offense work so well is the fact that he can catch those 5-15 yd. short-medium range passes along with the Packer Screens that can suck the Safeties and LB's in and open up the deep ball for Brett and Company. So as long as Walls is healthy, there is 2 ways the Packers Offense can go with that and both ways are lethal as long as Brett completes the pass and we know he always does. :thumbup
August 5, 200322 yr But Green Bay has no shot of Super Bowl with teams like Tampa and Tennessee in the way. :angry Why the hell not? The Titans won't pass the second round in the AFC playoffs, and if the Pack get to play Tampa IN Green Bay, it's anybodys game.
August 5, 200322 yr Author Well see thats the thing. Green Bay has a regular season game in Tampa Bay in which the Packers have never won at Raymond James. And so thats probably a tiebreaker game for the playoffs. And Tampa will probably win that. And Green Bay has a tiebreaker game (or what looks to be one) with Philly at Lambeau but they should win that. So Tampa gets the 1 seed, Green Bay the 2, and Philly the 3 seed. Green Bay would win at home (its automatic, even after Atlanta), and then go to Tampa for the NFC Championship. The odds aren't good. And Tennessee seems to be a favorite pick in the AFC along with Miami, New England, Oakland and Pittsburgh. If Green Bay can make it out of the NFC they can beat anything in the AFC. But see thats only because the NFC is superior to the AFC because TB, GB, & Phi are still arguably the 3 best teams in the league. But thats ARGUABLY. Because Oakland is old. Miami, well I need to see it to believe it with them. Pittsburgh, I think they are a bit overrated but still good. New England, Green Bay mauled them in Boston last year nuff said. Buffalo, I have to see it to believe it again but the talent is there. But still Green Bay has easily one of the 5 best offenses talent wise. The only thing holding them back at times is Coordinator Tom Rossley. Rossley should be fired for a guy like Sherman Lewis (who was their coordinator in the Super Bowl years) who knows how to maximize talent and mold a system around his players. Rossley tries to force our talent into his system, and his system is very mish-mash and disorganized.
August 5, 200322 yr BTW: I was just watching Sports Center, and someone (I forget his name) chose a Tampa-Miami Super Bowl. Phlub, I thought EVERYONE has been saying we will falter? :lol
August 5, 200322 yr Author WC they are. But just watch WC you WILL falter. 9-7/10-6 is your destiny. And people like Minus can say I'm an idiot. Because you won't be the first person I've proved wrong. At the end of the season you'll realize just how much I really know about the game of football. Talk all you want now. I'll have the last laugh. And WC you can point to the ESPN poll that favors you guys. So what. 150 thousand people. Out of how many football fans there is in the world? 150k is very small amount. And plus it could be a bunch of Fin fans that voted, you don't know, i don't nobody does. But chances are like in the "Ultimate Team" voting a bunch of Packers fans voted. Who cares? It means nothing because it affects nothing. What matters isn't Vegas odds, or fan polls. What matters is whats in the Sports page come late December. Because what you guys don't understand is. Since I'm not a Fins fan, I have absolutely no bias at all when evaluating you guys. I don't hate the Fins and I don't like them. So having no bias, I'm totally nuetral and offer an objective opinion. Being a Packers fan, I have bias, but not as much as other Packers fans. Because 11/12 wins is about where the Pack will end up this year.
August 5, 200322 yr And people like Minus can say I'm an idiot. Because you won't be the first person I've proved wrong. You speak as if the season is over and your predictions are correct. Again, you have yet to prove anyone here wrong or right. Because what you guys don't understand is.? Since I'm not a Fins fan, I have absolutely no bias at all when evaluating you guys.? I don't hate the Fins and I don't like them.? So having no bias, I'm totally nuetral and offer an objective opinion. So the analyst(s) at ESPN and other major sports networks/magizines that pick Miami to win the division, AFC, and Super Bowl are ALL Dolphins biased? Just because they have a different opinion than you do, they are biased? Give me a break. The aren't biased toward Miami, but they chose Miami to achieve those things because they can read the names on the roster! They aren't like you, who can see as much as Stevie Wonder can with a blind fold on in a dark room with the shades closed at night time.
August 5, 200322 yr But Green Bay has no shot of Super Bowl with teams like Tampa and Tennessee in the way. :angry and Dolphins
August 5, 200322 yr Author Get real guys. And I said YOU GUYS are biased. Not ESPN reporters. The only ESPN reporters with bias are Dan LeRetard (LeBetard), and Hank Goldberg.
