July 27, 200521 yr The appeal of Rangers left-hander Kenny Rogers to reduce a 20-game suspension has been rejected by Commissioner Bud Selig. Selig handed down the suspension after Rogers had a physical confrontation with two cameramen at Ameriquest Field on June 29. The appeal by Rogers was heard last Friday in Milwaukee. "Kenny Rogers' behavior toward the two cameramen who were present at the ballpark and doing their job on June 29 was wholly unacceptable," Selig said. "I have always placed a special emphasis on the social responsibility that each of us has in Major League Baseball given its proper place in American history and culture as a social institution. The media is entitled to perform its role without fear of physical intimidation or contact from our players or other participants. "While I listened carefully to Kenny Rogers' explanation last week, I heard nothing that would warrant either eliminating or reducing the discipline imposed." The Commissioner ordered that Rogers' disciplinary action begin with Wednesday night's Orioles-Rangers game. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article...t=.jsp&c_id=mlb Good.
