The Mariners have lowered their asking price for Eddie Guardado to a quality prospect and the Marlins aren't on his no-trade list.

Castillo is hampered by swelling and soreness in his knee. How do you replace a .300 hitting 2nd baseman without giving away the ranch?

Do the Fish acquire Eddie and turn around and trade someone to acquire another infielder? Jack says if things got bad enough, for long enough, Cabrera would go to SS and Easley to second, but that's a short term fix.

Wouldn't Kip Wells be a better fit with the Fish than Mark Redman? How many lefty starters do you need and which one would you rather have in the playoffs? My vote goes to Wells.

Forget about Manny, let's look at the real needs of the Marlins right now. I think in their order of importance, it's an infielder, a reliever and a starter who can help you in the playoffs.

Trade candidates. Moehler, Valdez, Aguila, Vargas, Resop, Mota, and of course AJ.

Alex Gonzalez isn't out that long is he? I mean, it's a sore elbow. Gotta think he's back in a couple days.

My contention is that we need another middle infielder with both Gonzo and Looie ailing. Gonzo had surgery on that elbow, Castillo's swelling in the back of the knee may be a recurring problem, draining it does nothing except relieve the pain for a very short while, and who knows with with Gonzo.

I always forget about that surgery he had.

I imagine if we did anything, it'd be for a utility type player (or we'd call up Wilson :plain ). Unless we feel Alex's injury is something serious, I don't imagine we'll do anything major here.

I think the type of deal we would make if we made one for a middle infielder would be the same type of deal you could make after the non-waiver deadline.

I was heartened to see AGon swinging the bat last night, I read that as meaning Jack was getting him an at bat (live pitching) in anticipation of his return today or tomorrow.

But I am troubled that both middle infielders are hampered by joint problems, this is not good. Unlike a bruise or a rib muscle pull, there is a reason for inflammation, and it's not good. You just don't get a sore elbow or swelling of the knee because you pulled a muscle. It usually means cartilege or ligament damage, and while you can treat each with cortisone, that's temporary fix at best, especially with joints.

I was looking at Josh Wilson's numbers, and I'll leave it to the minor league mavens here to determine his readiness for the bigs, he does seem to be on a tear lately offensively.

If we got eddie and villone you could move mota (whom is gone after this year) for assistance of a bat/infielder backup. But, I think they will be fine. Delgado too.
