Simple question with a not so simple answer.

 

How's this thing going to end up?

 

The polls suggest that the public wants either Rove to resign or for this matter to be brought to light but I can't really say how this is going to end up. Bush seems to be more and more lightening up on his stance but the republicans in the house and senate are still standing behind Rove. Not to mention the conservative media, the WSJ op-ed pages are soundly behind Rove, praising him as a whistleblower and Fox New's John Gibson going as far as to say Rove deserves a medal.

 

I do eventually think this story is going to have consequences as it continues to grow, whether that means Rove's resignation or a panel looking into the matter, I don't exactly know. I do however feel that as this story continues to grow and still show's no signs of letting up eventually something will come out of this.

By all accounts Patrick Fitzgerald is the type of guy who's not going to be intimidated. So if Rove is in fact at the core of this, he'll go down. I think though Rove's backers would fight it tooth & nail, ultimately Bush wouldn't stand in the way either, & Rove will wind up with his own AM talk show. :shifty

What really irritates me is that the primary defenses for Rove have been either that he 1) was trying to set the record straight that they didnt send Wilson and hence was doing a good thing or 2) didnt technically leak anyone's name but just said it was his wife which he got from some else or 3)he is unaware(plausible deniability) or 4)she wasnt that important. These defenses have been an unquestionable joke. Notice how none of this was even mentioned when the investigation started or before Rove was exposed? Before Rove was implicated, the same people defending him were all about finding out who did these bad acts and now they arent so bad. All these arguments are contrived and fall by the wayside and are mainly political. They have tried to put the blame off on anyone they can including Novak and Miller.

 

What remains clear is that SOMEONE revealed her name. My guess is that that may never come out. Apparently Miller could have that info. They are running around on pure circular plausible deniability. Though Im not sure Fitzgerald would go to such lengths unless he was sure to get something big. I think at a minimum, someone gets fried for perjury.

 

 

oh btw, Congress is starting to investigate Fitzgerald. No chance anyone in Congress will make a big deal out of this unless Rove hints that he gave Hillary some loving.

I don't see how Rove will be able to keep his job, no matter what happens.

 

However, just because he doesn't have an official position, doesn't mean he still can't be Bush's behind-the-scenes right hand man.

Something must be extremely fishy that Rove wouldn't have been fired by now. If I didn't know any better (and I don't), I'd say that Rove has Bush by the balls. In other words, if Bush fires Rove, Rove might just talk about some stuff that we have no idea about. In other words, it is entirely within reason that Bush is keeping Rove around because firing him would lead to a divulgence of information that may lead to impeachment proceedings.
