Here is your Florida Marlins!

Marlins

1B: Kevin Millar

2B: Luis Castillo

3B: ???

SS: Edgar Renteria, Alex Gonzalez

C: Mike Redmond

LF: Miguel Cabrera

CF: Mark Kotsay

RF: Randy Winn

SP: Josh Beckett, Livan Hernandez, Nate Robertson

RP: Brian Meadows, Vic Darensbourg, Claudio Vargas

Wasn't Cabrera drafted by the D-Backs??

I think I heard that the other night on a game broadcast??

Cabrera was never drafted. He was highly sought after however and was reportedly ready to sign with the Reds, but they screwed up and the Marlins were able to sign him.

I also heard that the Yankees offered him more money than us but he wanted to play with Alex Gonzalez

atleast I think I heard that

Oh, thought i heard it on the game, that Cabs put on some good numbers in the D-Backs farm system, then came over in the Mantei trade and made it here as a big leaguer...or was that someone else??

We got Abraham Nunez, Brad Penny, and Vladimir Nunez for Mantei.

Then it was prolly Penny since he started last night :p

The game would certainly be different with no free agents or trades. The last few years I have found myself wishing that at least MLB implements a limit on trades and FA signings. Something along the lines of: Each season (from Day 1 after the W.S. through to the deadline for setting playoff rosters) each team is allowed 3 trades and 3 free agent signings (no matter how big or small a name a team gets.) If a team exceeds its limit, then they need to rely on their farm system to bring up talent, which would mean teams might have to learn to draft better to anticipate needs. Maybe 3 for a number of trades and free agents isn't correct, but you get the idea. That means the Yankees can't scoop everyone up and might have to be picky on who they get.

Hard to say teh Yankees would not win with no free agents or trades:

Yankees

1B: J.T. Snow, Nick Johnson

2B: Alfonso Soriano

3B: Mike Lowell

SS: Derek Jeter

C: Jorge Posada

LF: Hideki Matsui

CF: Bernie Williams

RF: Wily Mo Pena

SP: Andy Pettitte, Eric Milton, Jose Contreras, Orlando Hernandez, Al Leiter, Victor Zambrano, Brad Halsey, Brandon Claussen

RP: Mariano Rivera, Craid Dingman, Chris Spurling, Randy Keisler, Yhency Brazoban, Russ Springer

Ladies and gentlemen, the third baseman for your Florida Marlins...Josh Booty?

Cabrera was never drafted. He was highly sought after however and was reportedly ready to sign with the Reds, but they screwed up and the Marlins were able to sign him.

yeah I heard it too

always cracks me up

If we had kept Renteria, Gonzalez probably would have moved over to 3B. He was known for his strong arm and butter fingers when he first came up. I remember the baseball press making a lot out of Benji Gil or Craig Counsell being the Marlins' SS for what ended up being Gonzalez' all-star rookie year.

I don't know about that... SP is a little weak. Lowell and Bernie aren't any good any more...

What about the Washington Nationals?

Nationals

1B: Matt Stairs

2B: Jose Vidro

3B: Geoff Blum

SS: Orlando Cabrera

C: Michael Barrett

LF: Cliff Floyd, Jason Bay

CF: Brad Wilkerson, Grady Sizemore, Milton Bradley

RF: Vladimir Guerrrero, Admin Walker

SP: Randy Johnson, Javier Vazquez, Cliff Lee, Kirk Rueter

RP: Chad Cordero, Ugueth Urbina, Jorge Julio, Miguel Batista, Antonio Alfonseca

The infield corners are a bit weak, but oh, what an outfield! How many of those guys have been All-Stars sometime in the last three years? Six? I'd probably start Wilkerson over Stairs at 1B.

Why did you have to post that? I ahad no idea we were going to sign him! Typical Reds could have had Cabbs, but we screw it up. :thumbdown
