September 14, 200520 yr Im not setting out any jinxes, im just trying to have a discussion... Suppose the Marlins were to make the playoffs and play the Cardinals. The cardinals have a fantastic and probable cy young pitcher as their no. 1 guy. Willis would be our no. 1 guy going against him. Do you think it might be better to start Beckett in Game 1 against Carpenter? I know we dont know how Carpenter would respond in a playoff game, but the guy is damn good and I can see him shutting us down. It might be a better option to put in Beckett who is great in the playoffs and might match up better. Just a random thought...
September 14, 200520 yr How do you know willis wont shut them down? Its a good thought but if willis goes for game 2, and the series goes to five i bwould rather have willis on the mound again. Willis = good
September 14, 200520 yr I was thinking about this too. I would like to have the R-L-R combination of Beckett, Willis, and Burnett starting for us, in that order. I don't know, though. I would say just throw our best guy out there, too.
September 14, 200520 yr You'd have to look at the rest of the matchups as well...Marquis is getting knocked around again today so he is likely losing his last shot at the post-season rotation, leaving Mulder and Morris and Suppan(if the series gets extended). And yes, but Big Tex in game 1 if we get to the playoffs.

Willis = good 945093[/snapback] Good point. I proably would too. I would say we should wait to see who's got the hot hand at the time and go with them (between Beckett and Willis... no way would I start AJ).
September 14, 200520 yr aj would be the big number 3 or maybe 4, if u wanna go r-l-r-l or l-r-l-r u coudl go beckett willis burnett vargas, or willis beckett vargas burnett but i'm not sure how confident i am in vargas right now, let alone burnett... also keep in mind whoever starts one and two will be on the road the first two games. i don't have the stats onhand but should be interesting to look at.
September 14, 200520 yr In any series, no matter who we're playing, no matter what the situation is, the top-3 should go Beckett, Willis, Burnett. Applying this to the playoffs, Beckett is the best big game pitcher we've got. And to put this all to bed, McKeon has faith (almost to a flaw) in Beckett unlike any other pitcher on our staff, even Dontrelle. In the playoffs, I'd want Beckett starting Game 1.
September 14, 200520 yr can we please stop this? We haven't made the playoffs....god damn, you people and your jinxes.

September 14, 200520 yr in the playoffs it will go beckett, willis and burnett for the lone reason of sandwiching the lefty between two righties
September 14, 200520 yr The stats don't prove me out but I'd like Beckett to start the series and possibly pitch twice. Just my personal preference. If Beckett has one thing that I don't like about him it's that he doesn't seem to get up for games when there isn't a lot at stake. He's one of those live on the edge type of guys. The post season seems like the natural environment for him.
