September 15, 200520 yr Florida State and Miami will again open their seasons against each other on Labor Day in 2006, but ESPN will be televising the game in primetime instead of ABC, which has carried the game the past two seasons. A week after the Sept. 4 game between the Seminoles and Hurricanes, ESPN will begin airing NFL Monday Night Football. The Florida State-Miami game was moved to the start of the season in 2004, when the Hurricanes joined the Seminoles in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Last year's game was scheduled to be played in the Orange Bowl on Labor Day night but had to be pushed back because of Hurricane Frances. ??When all factors were weighed, it was collectively decided that playing next year's game versus Miami on Labor Day night was in the best interest of all parties concerned,'' Florida State athletic director David Hart said in a statement released Thursday. ??Miami never had the opportunity to host the game on that day and the viewership and exposure for the ACC and both universities from our game 10 days ago was exceptional.'' Florida State defeated Miami 10-7 on Sept. 5.
September 15, 200520 yr Dammit. Didn't they learn anything from the quality of play of this year's game? It's cool that whoever loses still gets has a chance in the national title race because they lost so early, but I'd rather see a game where offenses actually look functional due to having games under their belt as opposed to the ineptitude that occured this season.

It would give both offenses time to get their s*** together while also potentially allowing a team that loses to get back into the national title race.
