Case for Affirmative Action

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I'm doing a debate pro affirmative action, I need three sources with facts (not opinions) supporting this...can you help me?

I appreciate it!

It helps more than just black people. It helps everyone that isn't a white male.

I know. But I need facts from websites and such to support it. Everything I've found that would be worthy of bringing into a class credits the same stuff, it's all going kind of circular. Are there any websites with statistics and stuff?

Have a hot chick from the squad near the lecture, then come in and grab her heiny and she can act all offended and smack you. Then you just say, "That's NOT right!" Then do it again, have her act all pleased, then say, "YOU'RE HIRED!" Shake hands and walk off.

Points to some statistics that show that affirmitive action in some areas has been beneficial(ie more blacks going to college). It also has two case studies. I think the one for the army shows affirmitve action actually helped a lot. I only glossed it over to help you out. Read it over.

I said it in your other thread:

You got screwed with this stance on this topic, because there are no real facts that even make affirmative action look reasonable.

I know...I got screwed royally. It was either pro/con on AA or on the death penalty. I could easily do any of the other three.

Affirmative Action is legal in some states, illegal in others. The Federal Government practices it in all states, some companies have policies state-by-state. In Florida, the State has discontinued it in State schools, universities, employment, and business.

Golly gee willikers, thanks for the help QuickGold! Gar-hyuck!

My point was I was having difficulty finding statistics and facts and not just opinions.

I think Affirmative Action debates should include a study of the student body at Florida A&M. Hope that tip is good.

Florida no longer practices affirmative action. However, Florida has the Talented 20 program which is a merit based program that aims at taking the Top 20% of every graduating class and guaranteeing them admission into a State Public University. The reasoning is that every high school will represent their community's diversity well and by taking the Top 20% you will get a racial diversity and academic superiority that could not be attained by Affirmative Action.

Thanks for the help Cape!
