(AP) - A teacher who was beaten at a school last week has died, and authorities said murder charges were possible against the 15-year-old boy accused of attacking her. Judy Jester, 55, died Sunday after doctors removed life support with the permission of her family. Relatives said she suffered irreversible brain damage in last week's beating, which cracked her skull. Police Chief Lyndon McWhorter said charges against the teenager could be upgraded as early as later Monday. He previously was charged with burglary, robbery and attempted murder. The youth, an eighth-grader at Lawrence County High School, has not been identified publicly because of his age. He pleaded not guilty in the beating but remains in custody. Police said Jester, who taught at Hatton Elementary School, was beaten unconscious Wednesday afternoon at the Family Education Campus, the daytime home to Head Start and the site of adult education classes at night. Jester also worked there. A group of teens found Jester in the center after noticing an open door and called police.
