August 31, 200323 yr With Cabs moving to third does Beinfest go out and get a Stairs or a Gibbons or a _________ or does the team stand pat? This is going to be a real test for both men, The Kid who has to step up his game and take Lowell's spot at third, and Beinfest, to see how the h*ll he can find a big bat left-fielder in the next 24 hours? I wish them both well. Beinfest has the worst of it, being the fourth best team in the NL means trouble getting players through waivers and other GMs are going to be asking a fortune knowing we're desperate. But these are the kinds of situations that make for GM of the Year candidates. If he can orchestrate a deal that gets us to the promised land you can ink his name in for the award.

I don't think we're desperate at all. I believe Beinfest has confidence in Brian, althoguh I also think he'll have traded for someone by the end of tommorrows game.

Sham, please note I carefully placed the word "a" in front of Gibbons name as I did with Stairs, meaning they were "indicative" of the type of player The Fish might be looking at. One was an aging veteran and the other a much lesser known player, but both hard-nosed guys. I could have easily used a dozen other names but I chose those two purely for illustration purposes. Would Conine fit in? You betcha. Vander Wal, Sanders (who I understand is now LA property), sure. I was trying to make a point, which is, with not just the season, but a new stadium on the horizon and next year's ticket sales in the balance, the Marlins have alot of reasons to push the envelope and try to bring someone in. Wild may disagree, and I like Brian Banks no doubt, but I believe the Fish will do everything in their power to acquire talent before the end of the day.
