February 9, 200620 yr Got a hold of the press release early, here is the scoop. http://capefish.blogspot.com/2006/02/fsn-f...e-regional.html
February 9, 200620 yr Awesome, thanks Cape. Regarding the SunSports deal, when it says may not be available in all areas, is that because some providers don't haveSunSports, or will some SunSports channels on certain providers just not carry the game?
February 9, 200620 yr Author I am not sure, but it appears that Sun Sports will only be able to carry the game on systems that carry FSN Florida. The cable system will be instructed to change from the Sun Sports feed to the Marlins feed for those games as specials and the production will not be branded as Sun Sports. I don't expect DirecTV (owned by News Corp along with FSN/SUN) and Dish Network (have been very friendly to FSN as of late....Utah Jazz most recent of these kinds of FSN-only team deals) to have a problem statewide. I also think Comcast, Charter, and Adelphia in South Florida should not have issues. Everywhere else, the ball is in your cable company's court. Example of a similar deal: FSN Utah bought the rights to more Utah Jazz games. DirecTV and Dish Network immediately signed up to pay FSN Utah for the additional games. Comcast in Salt Lake City did not. The Jazz created this site to break it down: http://www.nba.com/jazz/news/Attention_TV_Viewers.html I expect that if your cable/satellite system let you watch the Marlins on FSN Florida last year, you should be fine. Those with MLB.tv and MLB Extra Innings should be fine. Only those who have a cable/satellite provider who does not agree to carry FSN Florida and possibly pay for the additional 50-or-so games will have problems. Sunshine Network (now Sun Sports) had an issue with this when they added 20-or-so more HEAT games to their package and AT&T Broadband (now Comcast) did not sign up for a season or two. We watched fishing instead of the HEAT in many parts of South Florida. I don't expect that to happen, but be aware it could happen.
February 9, 200620 yr Cape, I currently live in Gainesville FL and have received the Marlins games for the last couple of years via Fox Sports for the games on that channel as well as all of the games on PAX via a channel called "Cox Sports". Cox is in fact our cable provider. Would you expect this change to Sun Sports to have any effect for the 2006 season? Thanks in advance.

Cox Cable systems in Gainesville, Ocala, and the Gulf Coast in the Panhandle are all very good in their terms with FSN Florida. I would expect all games to air on FSN and SUN as scheduled and even to see Cox carry the HD feed of those select HD games.
February 10, 200620 yr Author What about Tally-town, Capey? Got Dish? Thursday 23-Mar vs. NY Nets 7:00 PM FSN Florida The Sun Sports/FSN Florida typist was rushing....not too hard to make. Nets...Mets....both suck
February 10, 200620 yr Good news is that I'll be home for the majoirty of the season...erego, not a HUGE problem. Until the stretch run in September :confused
February 10, 200620 yr Unfortuntely here on Miami Beach we'll only get 95 games because our cable company, Atlantic Broadband is the only one in Florida refusing to pickup the 55 games on the Sun Network. GRRRR :banghead
February 10, 200620 yr Here's hoping that the Sun Sports games will be on C-Band! As I discovered a little too late last year, the PAX games were fed on W4, I believe. Unfortunately, that is kind of a weak satellite, so those who complained about PAX's video quality, that would be why.

Unfortunately, that is kind of a weak satellite, so those who complained about PAX's video quality, that would be why. FSN Florida and Sun Sports used to be on 4DTV.

GRRRR :banghead I was surprised to read that in the paper today. This would really blow for the fans in Miami Beach! DirecTV!!
February 10, 200620 yr FSN Florida and Sun Sports used to be on 4DTV. Right, but they were taken off prior to last season. All of the FSN stations were divided between W4 and W1.
February 10, 200620 yr Author So FSN is back on C-Band? If the Miami Herald is right....Comcast, Charter, DirecTV, and Dish Network should all have 150 Fish games on TV ? Atlantic Broadband -- which services 82,000 customers, mostly on Miami Beach -- is the only local cable operator that's refusing to pay an extra fee to carry 55 Marlins games that are being moved from Pax-35 to FSN or Sun Sports, a Sun spokesperson said. Unless that changes, Atlantic Broadcast subscribers will see 95 games.
February 11, 200620 yr So FSN is back on C-Band? Unfortunately, no. There are still some individual wild feeds from some teams, like the Marlins when they were on PAX, but the FSNs are still gone.
February 11, 200620 yr I am currently investing in a Direct TV satellite to watch the Marlins/Heat and Dolphins, will I be able to watch all the Marlins games or most of it? And what's a C-Band?
February 11, 200620 yr And what's a C-Band? C-Band satellites are the HUGE dishes - also called BUDs (for "big ugly dish"). I live in Maine, and can't get the Marlins on locally. Occasionally, games are fed to stations through C-Band - in its heyday in the 80s and early 90s almost every sports event was available, often without commentary. Most stations now feed the games digitally through other means, such as MPEG-2 encoding on Ku-Band (which are often viewable if you have the right equipment). C-Band's digital side is called 4DTV, and until last season, the FSN stations were available for subscription, although they blacked out all of them except your local station. Luckily, there were free previews that included all the stations, so I could see most of the Marlins games, between FSN and other stations (TBS, WPIX, WGN, etc...). Sadly, those are gone to Ku too, I believe.
February 11, 200620 yr Author Nationwide, you can get at least 150 Marlins games via MLB Extra Innings (on Dish Network, DirecTV, and Digital Cable) and MLB.tv In Florida and Southern Alabama, FSN Florida/Sun Sports will combine to air 150 games on Dish Network, DirecTV, and most cable systems.
February 11, 200620 yr In Florida and Southern Alabama, FSN Florida/Sun Sports will combine to air 150 games on Dish Network, DirecTV, and most cable systems what about Texas?
February 12, 200620 yr Author what about Texas? Astros on FSN Southwest, Channel 51 and Rangers on FSN Southwest. For the Marlins you need MLB.tv or MLB Extra Innings.
