February 13, 200620 yr Is there another team that has more rookies on their 40 man roster than us? Would be interesting to know, perhaps the Royals?
February 13, 200620 yr Allen Baxter Adam Bostick Travis Bowyer Jesus Delgado Harvey Garcia Jose Garcia Josh Johnson(I think) Logan Kensing(I think) Carlos Martinez Mike Megrew Randy Messenger Ricky Nolasco Scott Olsen Yusmeiro Petit Reynel Pinto Chris Resop Anibal Sanchez Scott Tyler Josh Willingham Alfredo Amezega(dunno) Robert Andino Mike Jacobs Hanley Ramirez Jason Stokes Dan Uggla Reggie Abercrombie Jeremy Hermida Eric Reed I doubt anyone competes with that(28)
February 13, 200620 yr No. Anyways, one of my favorite parts of being a Marlins fan is always seeing fresh faces. I really liked2004-05 and all, but underacheiving veterans aren't nearly as exciting as young guys trying to prove themselves.

February 13, 200620 yr well he doesnt have enough at bats, but I guess he has the service time Has has 217 career ABs. for some reason I thought it was 130 bats in one season From what I understand it's 130 ABs whether you get there in one season or 10 (without going over the 45-day service time requirement). A player shall be considered a rookie unless, during a previous season or seasons, he has (a) exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues; or (b) accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the period of 25-player limit (excluding time in the military service and time on the disabled list). That, to the best of my knowledge, makes for a grand total of 130 at bats. Of course, baseball rules are usually not clear, and I could definitely be misinterpreting.
February 13, 200620 yr Based on those rules, is Messenger still a rookie? I looked at the transactions page on the floridamarlins.com site, and I think he had these services times: 6/22/05 - 6/28/05 7/8/05 - 7/26/05 8/6/05 - 8/7/05 8/8/05 - end of season That comes to 6 days + 18 days + 1 day + 23 days (only counting until 25-man roster limit day of 8/31) = 48 days. I could easily have missed an option/recall in there or maybe they count days differently.

I am looking forward to seeing these guys go out day after day to bust their arses for the love of the game and not just a paycheck. What we are going to see this year I think will be very memorable for a long time. I am not saying that the team is going to win 100 games, or even 80 for that matter, I think that we will see a level of play from these guys that the game was intended to be played at. I am sorry that this is the year that so many "faithful" fans chose to turn a cold shoulder on the team (Speaking in terms of the whole organization, not just the on field product).
