Inside Man

Saw it today.....thought it was pretty good. Sucks that it had to come the week after V for Vendetta, but what can you do. Clive Owen and Denzel Washington both did very good jobs in their roles (no surprises there). I thought the directing was strange (I questioned some of the stuff Spike Lee did) but the story overall was very good.

My one complaint though is the ending. I didn't really like the way they handled the Case subplot - it was well drawn up and it looked like the movie was setting up to take this huge turn into the climax, and then it just ended. Hard to say that a 129 minute movie was too short, but I think that's the case here. If they would have developed the Holocaust angle, maybe run with it a little more, I think the movie would have gotten an A+. As it is right now, it's still very good, but it stays as very good with potential instead of great.

Overall I'd recommend everyone watch it after they finished with V.

I loved it.

My only complaint was the over dramatic musical score.

The best way to describe this movie is 'cool'.

Cool plot, the dialogue is cool, characters are damn cool. Just a cool flick. Like a throwback to old heist films with a little bit more to it. Easily worth the admission or illegal download.

I liked the storyline a lot, and the acting was really good. Denzel is the man--he can play any role, and make it believable.

I was very surprised by a couple of things at the ending, but nothing that doesn't make any sense. Ya it does suck that it's right after 'V'. I can't compare it because I liked V a lot more for the most part. This is probably the best hostage-drama I've seen in a while, and the first time I've seen quality movies in back-to-back weeks for some time as well.

I think the movie was long enough. They actually extended it longer than I thought they needed to. Going too much into the Holocuast issue would have been pointless, in my opinion. I think they hit the hammer on the head and really put everything together well. The ending was perfect, in my opinion. It was funny--there are a couple of issues throughout the movie that you don't pay attention to until they are highlighted at the end...

For example, the rabbi--when he's being interrogated, he tells the police that his nephew can help him appraise or buy diamonds...in the end, his nephew ends up being one of the robbers and he was in on the whole thing.

And when Jodi Foster is speaking with a Middle Eastern man at the beginning of the movie, she mentions that she knows what his uncle did and wouldn't hold it against him. You don't give it a second thought, but at the end of the movie, she says that he was Osama bin Laden's nephew! I loved that, and the irony that Case didn't believe her.

And finally when Clive Owen leaves the bank, he bumps into Denzel...I had no idea why, but I thought that was very peculiar. Why would he risk being noticed? He knew who Denzel was...Turns out, obviously, that Clive dropped a pretty diamond in Denzel's pocket. Skills!!!

All in all, I wonder how many people recognize the similarities between 'V' and 'Inside Man'. Supposed criminals who are generally deemed 'villains' in the real world (V as the terrorist, Clive as the robber) end up providing the true heroism in the story (V delivering liberty to his country and Clive delivering justice to a former Nazi)

I can't wait until next week for the trifecta---Ice Age 2, baby!

Oh ya, there is a trailer for 'Da Vinci Code' before the movie--I'm pumped about that..It looks identical to the book and I hope the entire movie follows the novel closely.

And there is a more in depth trailer for the 9-11 movie (not the one with Nick Cage, but I don't remember the name of this one). "Fligh 93", maybe?

Solid. 7/10

Denzel Washington may be the coolest actor working right now, so pretty much anything he's in is going to be alright. Honestly, I think if I had to pick anyone to be reincarnated as I'd select Denzel Washington. The final act is weak, but Spike Lee continues to prove as one of the most interesting filmakers in Hollywood. I just never felt that...thing...you know? That factor where it clicks in your mind as a great movie.

It is a shame that it had to come after V. I probably had unrealistic expectations, coming off the high that that movie gave me.

Yeah, it was Flight 93. Though, I'm not going to lie, I got excited too quick and thought it was Snakes on a Plane. I nearly jumped out of my chair.

Did any of you guys see the MI3 trailer? Quite a few people in my theater actually laughed at the sight of Tom Cruise. It was quite amusing.

Poseidon was also supposed to be a "big" movie, that I don't think anyone cares about at all, at least judging from the trailer reaction.

If I had a relative who died in Flight 93 I'd be sick to my stomach with that movie coming out now, or at all.

I saw the MI:3 trailor. There were a couple of yells but nothing major. South Park is taking its toll, though.

You know what bugged me about Flight 93? They showed the hijackers carrying explosives. Um, what?

It's not the first either. The other one on AMC (or whatever channel it was on a couple months ago) was the same exact thing as this Hollywood movie.

I am not interested.

Wasn't at the showing I was in, although I have seen it before. It's sad that Tom had his sister as his publicist at the time he did, people will hate on him for that instead of having an opinion of him as an actor. I dont give a crap about actors outside of what they do on the screen. Cruise was and still is one of my top 5 current actors. Say what you will about him outside of the silver screen but on it the man brings it.

Poseidon will bomb.

I guess I must have missed that part of the nonstop TV coverage.

About the explosives? Apparently the one guy went into the bathroom (supposedly!) and hooked up the explosives to his chest. That's how he made his way into the cabin.

I don't know, I find it very hard to believe that five years passed and it didn't get out far into the public where I'd know this. I didn't really dig up info on Flight 93 at any point, but that's something I'd remember. Besides, even then, they clearly showed all of them putting the explosives on.

Besides, I mean explosives would have solved what exactly? The point of hijacking the plane was to hit the White House (so we think).....the explosives were a bluff. Meh to that.

There's no doubt that Tom Cruise is a really good actor; Jerry Maguire, Rain Man and Top Gun are all cultural phenomena. I even found him to be solid in War of the Worlds, which was an otherwise pretty poor film.

Nonethless, I can't help but notice his extreme fall, steeping to new lows with tonights trailer reaction.

I also agree, I think Poseidon will bomb. I saw the trailer three times in the IMAX theaters and there was almost no reaction, each time. Big time flop.

Exactly.

If the people on the plane really knew what they were going to do, there would have been havoc on the plane.

My opinion on Tom Cruise is that he's okay. Not great. But not bad.

I wonder if MI:3 will do better or worse as a result of his overexposure. Usually moves suffer because of that crap, but Tom has some X-factor in his corner.

I thought Inside Man was alright. Clive Owen played the part really well but overall, I wasn't that impressed.

I saw Inside Man tonight. I really friggin' enjoyed it. I loved the way you knew it was Spike Lee directing because he really did some great race relations stuff and some great shots of NYC that you almost never see. None of the typical NYC shots (ESB, SoL, etc.). Outside of a few iffy camera angles, I think this was some of the best direction of seen recently save for Munich. I loved how the plot ended, my only complaint is that it was wrapped up almost a little too tightly. I would've liked to have had a bit of headscratcher as to how Clive was hidden and how he got out. I wanted to just see him walking out and then sucking on his pina colada with girls named Tiffany and Amber. Cast was pretty solid too. Jodie Foster's performance was a tad bit flat, but I think that's what her character was supposed to be. Good entertainment and a good way to spend two hours.
