Because guess what? There is more of a chance of you dying in a regular car crash than in a racing crash.

March 26, 200620 yr Wow....that's very sad stuff. Indy is today, right?? The Indianapolis 500 is every Memorial Day weekend. It's true that there is much less of a chance of a driver dying on the racetrack than on the road. (The IRL cars actually go about 45 mph faster than stock cars at their fastest which greatly increases the number of the rate of injury in IRL accidents as opposed to NASCAR accidents) RIP Paul Dana.
