Gambit's Betrayal

Featured Replies

I'm not sure how many comics(or more specificially X-Men) fans there are, except the large X3 movie thread.

Anyway, without going into to much backstory, and making myself sound like a nerd, Gambit became the newest Death, Horeseman of the Apocalypse(and 2 other former X-Men...Polaris and Sunfire...became Pestilince and Famine)

Anyway, Gambit willingly chose to become Death, Gambit and Sunfire were forced. But, I just figured some might like a picture of Gambit as Death.

Ya kinda. The only problem I have with this storyline is that House of M and Decimation sucked so bad, and they needed to come back with something strong, but they couldnt...as this, just like any other Apocalypse storyline, is complete garbage.

Although, the past 2 storylines in New X-Men have been absolutely amazing.

Really? House of M was bad?

I'm out of the Marvel loop. I only really follow Daredevil and that's it, he kind of does his own thing outside of what everyone else is doing.

I follow DC more heavily and most of the Crisis I've read rocks, HARD. From a member of the JLA's wife getting raped, to the JLA mindwiping Batman so he doesn't remember (because they refused to "punish" the villain).

I ordered that 40 years of the X-Men DVD from Marvel so I can relive some of the classic Byrne/Claremont run, as well as Lee/Claremont.

House of M was just way too ambitious.

Short rundown, Wanda Lenscher(The Sacrelt Witch) goes insane, and no one can help her. Due to her immense power, reshaping reality at will, the concensus is to kill her. But before that happens, her brother Pietro(Quicksilver) convinces her to turn the world into a mutant utopia with her father as leader.

Well, at the end of House of M, Wanda went even more insane and closed with the line in my sig..."No More Mutants". Well, that event, M-Day: Decimation, caused about 95% of the worlds mutants to lose their powers. They went from millions to hundreds. Notable de-powered included Professor X, Magneto, Polaris.

Anyway, most of the mutants are depowered. But, their powers are not gones as in "just gone", they were siphoned out and the mutant gene made dormant, and all of the extracted mutant powers went into one host body.

Also, as a result of decimation, Apocalypse has come back(which sucks, because he sucks), and Reverend Stryker has targeted the next generation of X-Kids, resulting in alot of the depowered students at the Xavier academy dead(Sophia-Winddancer, Tag, and possibly Wallflower being the most prominent...Icarus, Husk and Cannonball's brother, is also gravely wounded and possibly depowered).

They've already set up for HoM: Decimation to be undone, just a matter of time. It likely wont last too much longer, with a complete reversal of the storyline sometime between the Onslaught/Heroes Reborn 10th anniversary and the end of the year. The storyline has been hit with harsch criticism and bad reviews, from professionals and fans alike. It was not taken well.

I liked house of m, but the payoff was weak.

Would have been better if there were more lasting effects with Spidey since he really got messed up the most with the whole "what could have been."

And I think Bendis did write it or advise heavily since it definitely had the deus ex machina ending that he overdoes in his work.

Yuh, I like Bendis, but only on certain things. His Daredevil and Ultimate Spider-Man are awesome, but I can't even imagine the trainwreck that would result from him working on a team book.

That Heroes Reborn 10th Anniversary sucks, though. It makes since, since Jeph Loeb is coming back (even though at the time he was teamed up with the worst artist of all time, in my opinion, Rob Liefeld to do a mediocre Captain America). I remember it upset everyone and they did some cool things, but in the end it was like it never happened. And them taking Mark Waid off of Captain America ticked me off, he was just getting rolling.

Buckeye although I haven't ever read much DC, I got the Identity Crisis mini-series & was really blown away. Seems like people either loved it or hated it.

I started getting the Astonishing X-Men series for Joss Whedon, but haven't read the Uncanny line for a long time.

Cool stuff though, thanks Hermida. (Archangel was always the coolest ever of the Horsemen IMO!)

.. have also been reading New Avengers because of Bendis. Jury's still out so far... it's kind of all over the place. I think Bendis did House of M, although I missed that whole thing anyway.

I guess I'm the only one who didn't like Identity Crisis and just don't see the epicness of Infinite Crisis (haven't read #6 yet, though).

Not a DC guy, though.

Yeah, I probably follow the following titles more than anything else:

Batman (including Detective Comics; I have the last twenty years worth of back issues of both)

Daredevil (with tpb it goes a little further than 20 years)

Green Lantern

100 Bullets

The Losers

Hellboy

On occasion I'll read:

X-Men

Green Arrow

Captain America

Fantastic Four

Also of note, I've been collecting All-Star Superman and Batman, which a lot of people hate, but I find it entertaining as hell. There's so much good stuff out there these days it's just hard to follow everything. There's a real revolution amongst these guys who have been writing for film to come over to comics. So far it's working and the stuff today is getting a lot more literate in quality.

But, I ordered 44 Years of the Fantastic Four and 40 Years of the X-Men on DVD rom (containing all the Fantastic Four and X-Men issues from inception until 2004), and I'll be reading and catching up to those, I'm sure, for months to come.

Some of my favorite writers, lately, are: Grant Morrison, Geoff Johns and Ed Brubaker (why did DC let him slip away and go to Marvel!?)

Love All-Star Superman and Batman/Robin.

I'm more of a Marvel guy but I read and love Batman and Superman and all the involving books.

I guess it says something that I'm looking more forward to Civil War than I was Infinite Crisis or 52.

I loved it and don't even read comics anymore. Someone gave it to me for Christmas and I thought it was really really cool.

I respect your opinion, but I just really didn't care for it. The storyline was just too ambitious for my liking. I agree with the payoff being weak, but still enough to get it retcon'd. They'll only leave Charlie and Magneto depowered for so long. Revealing the host body for all the mutant powers(a guy name Michael) was the first stepping stone for the results of M-Day to go away.

For all X-Fans that dont, I really do strongly recommend picking up New X Men(formerly New X-Men: Academy X). The artwork is stunning and the dialouge is great, and since it revolves around the Xavier academy, it's a look into the future. X-23 is now a member of the main group(there were several groups of training squads, but decimation left alot of the student body powerless, so the several squads have been reformed into one big class). And then, alot of the students were killed in a bomb explosion carrying the last students to leave the academy after losing their powers. Really, really sad. But, the book itself is amazing.

Turning fan favorites into bad guys never lasts long. It looks cool, but we'll see where it goes.

I expect him to be back in the X-Men, smoking cigarettes and throwing playing cards in 2 years.

Yeah, I mean, they tried killing/fusing Cyclops with Apocalypse and it didn't last.

Gambit was anti-hero enough that this doesn't make a ton of sense outside of shock value, not anything near what they did with Angel.

Well, he's not back with the team anytime soon.

Polaris is, in about 2 issues though, my guess fully repowered.

I know a little birdie who keeps me up to date with what is happening in future storylines. Tony Reali would give this guy points for inside information.

Nice. I'm jealous.
