May 4, 200620 yr Link The Tigers at #2, never thought I would see that. Still way too early to tell, but I'm happy with it. Anyways, the White Sox look for real once again. That Thome acquisition and the pitching staff have just made them even better this year.

May 4, 200620 yr 5. Believe in this team. They?ve crafted the best record in the NL despite playing the seventh-toughest schedule in the game. The Reds will need to continue getting oodles of offense because the rotation beyond Arroyo and Harang just isn?t good enough to keep them afloat in low-scoring affairs. But this team can rake, and they?re very much a playoff threat. More good news: Ken Griffey Jr. should come off the DL by the weekend, and Tony Womack has been released. The keys to the season will be keeping guys like Griffey and Austin Kearns generally healthy.

As long as the White Sox are defending champs and they are winning games you can't argue against them. Plus there's the fact that right now the Tigs are living (and sometimes dying) by the home run ball. I don't expect to see Maroth and Robertson keep up their paces, and the injury bug is destined to hit, but I'm enjoying the ride right now. The Fish will never fall behind the Royals IMO. The Royals are bad. 2003 Tigers bad almost.
May 4, 200620 yr The Tigers have their work cut out for them this season. With Indians and White Sox in their division, it will be very hard for them to finish any higher than third.

I think the lineup could be scary, and I admittedly don't watch them religiously I'll just catch their games on extra innings from time to time, but they sure don't seem to manufacture a whole lot of runs. Blooping and blasting can catch up with you if you don't play your home games in a launching pad.
May 4, 200620 yr Author Another thing about the Tigers right now is the consistency with the pitching staff. They have held teams to 4 or less runs in 15 straight games. When you're holding teams to a low run total, you're going to win if you hit a couple of 2 run shots. They're going to have to increase their team OBP and start manufacturing some runs on the basepaths. Teams are going to score some runs on them and the 2 run and solo homeruns will not cut it.
May 4, 200620 yr Ordonez is in his second year with the Tigers, btw. The Tigers and Reds have really surprised me. With the lack of pitching on Cincinnati, I thought they would be in for a long season. It's the hitting that has been more impressive. Apparently getting rid of Sean Casey and Wily Mo did the trick. Watch out for the Brewers, though....I have them as my dark horse NL Wild Card pick.
May 4, 200620 yr Author And the Tigs win streak is over at 6, after losing today to the Halos. They've already had a win streak of 6 games and two win streaks of 5. Their biggest streak last season was 5 and that only happened once. Just don't start a losing streak and I'll be happy.
