BIG Z
By Juan C. Rodriguez Staff Writer Posted September 20 2003 ATLANTA ? Perhaps no Marlin is more eager for another crack at the Philadelphia Phillies than Chad Fox. Fox surrendered a solo homer to Jim Thome in the eighth inning of Thursday's 5-4 loss and got his first defeat since joining the Marlins on Aug. 12. Don't be surprised to see him pitching to Thome in a similar situation next week, when the Phillies play the first of three at Pro Player Stadium on Tuesday. Since his arrival, Fox has proved a reliable back-of-the-bullpen guy. In 16 appearances, he has a 2.57 ERA and is holding opponents to a .194 batting average, including a .214 mark to lefties. In addition, he has totaled twice as many strikeouts (22) as walks through 21 innings. Thome's homer was the third Fox has allowed in 39 innings. The first 18 of those came with the Boston Red Sox, who released him in early August. "I can't ask any more than what I've been given here, the opportunity to pitch like I've been pitching," Fox said. "It's unfortunate it didn't happen in Boston, for whatever reason. I'm just thankful I'm here. I love this team. I love this organization. Just the short month and a half I've been here, it's been awesome. "Just give me the chance to go out there and prove what I can do. That's all I could ask for and that's all I looked for when I got released. It's been a good fit and I've enjoyed it here." The experience would be even more enjoyable if Fox gets Thome out with a game on the line next week. "In that situation, I want the ball," he said. "I want to try to make things happen. That's what you play for, to come out here and get in the middle of it. I don't want to be the guy hoping the phone doesn't ring for me. I've never been that way." :shifty :w00t
IbleedPhillieRed
i like the intensity from any player, the "gimme the ball and let me do my thing" attitude. Although, for the sake of marlins fans, i'm not sure giving him the ball is in your best interest. But, if McKeon's crazy enough, i'll look forward to the rumble in the jungle, Fox V. Thome II - The Epic 450 ft. bomb to deep right. I had your game with the bravos on gamecast yesterday, Beckett was really pitching well, i think he had something like 9 K's through 7 or 8, but Ortiz finally showed up to get his 20th win. Lowered his ERA from somthing like 4.05 to 3.93. In related news, John Smoltz says hes ready to come back right now, case closed, which only means bad news for you for 2 more games and then the 3 games they play against us to close out the year :banghead d'oh. good luck (not sarcasm). I think the reason why there is so so many people lke that is because theres so many kids, im not bashing kids because i am one and there is plenty of smart ones,(lcastillo, ajburnett34, ect) but thats just stuff kids do, troll, especially the ones that arent reel baseball fans.
