June 7, 200620 yr The Greensboro Grasshoppers' playoff hopes took another hit Wednesday when the team announced that first baseman Gaby Sanchez, among the minor leagues' home run leaders all season, suffered a broken hand during Monday's game against Hickory and will be out indefinitely. Sanchez, whose 14 homers were seemingly targeting him for a promotion up the Florida Marlins' system, may have seen his Greensboro days end slightly sooner than expected. The injury is the second broken hand to a Hopper infielder in the past week. Shortstop Agustin Septimo sustained a similar injury last week. The Hoppers, fourth in a crowded Northern Division of the South Atlantic League, continue their first-half schedule at 11 this morning at Hickory. Trailing first-place Lexington by three games with 12 to play, they'll need to go on a winning streak and to do so without their best hitter. The first-half winner gets an automatic spot in the playoffs. The Greensboro franchise hasn't made it that far since the 1997 Bats, for whom 10 eventual major leaguers played at some point in the season. LINK He is now in Jupiter and has already seen a hand specialist and looks like he is out six weeks
June 7, 200620 yr Damn, been a rough week. That lineup is hurting now. Oh well hopefully he gets better soon and picks up where he left off.

According to someone close to Gaby, it looks like once his rehab is done, he will be promoted to Jupiter (High A). He has already cleared out his stuff from Greensboro

I'm guessing he would have been promoted following the all star break anyways which is in two weeks. They probably were holding out hopes they could get a playoff spot.
