Jacobs would DH to favor his ankle

This was published in Monday's Palm Beach Post regarding the Marlins DH options:

DH offers a break: Mike Jacobs, who has six hits in his past 12 at-bats, was given the day off to rest his sore right ankle.

After today's off day, Jacobs can expect a bit more rest while helping serve as the Marlins' designated hitter during their six-game interleague road trip that starts Tuesday in Baltimore and continues Friday at Yankee Stadium.

"He'll probably DH some, and it will be nice to give (Miguel) Cabrera a DH day. Maybe someday on the trip, you give Danny (Uggla) a DH day," manager Joe Girardi said.

Despite the sore ankle, Jacobs has been on a tear, going 20-for-45 (.444) with four home runs and eight RBI over his past 12 games.

After getting a single, a double and home run in his first three at-bats Saturday night, however, Jacobs said he never entertained the idea of hitting for the cycle. "I've got no chance for a triple," said Jacobs, who on top of having an ankle injury is far from being the Marlins' fastest runner. "Wes (Helms) was giving me a hard time about it. I said, 'All you need to do is give me your ankle and we can roll with it.' "

Jacobs has no triples in 309 big-league at-bats. He had five in the minor leagues, with two last year.

I got a question. If a player is slumping, according to some people the manager should not bench him, instead he should let the player figure out his own problem. According to another group, when a player is on fire, you shouldn't bench him so he can continue his hot streak. So my question is simple: what kind of bizare condition must be met so benching your starting players be appropiate? A more important question is, which of this dumb group have no idea what he talking about when it come to baseball? :confused

wow... thats gotta be the most clarified, honest, insightful question/statement Ive ever witnessed on this site :drunks

I got an idea for atleast one of the games.

Since Hanley is still slumping, why not put him as DH, Mezzy at short, Hermida in CF (Ross stays in left), and Borchard in RF?

Just an idea.

He'd still be in the lineups. I'm not sure what you're getting at dude.

So he won't be out on the field every inning, therefore he can have time to rest a bit between AB's.

They need to DL Uggla one of these games and get Amezaga at 2nd.

DH*

Why?

Because he has a hot bat and plays good defense. Reward him by giving him a start at 2nd.

And btw, it's going to happen whether it makes sense or not. Girardi already mentioned it.

I can't wait until Willingham gets back....

only thing that has surprised me about Josh so far this year is his 22:45 BB/K ratio. I thought that would be a little better, especially when he had a 9:3 BB/K ratio in spring training.

He cool down, what did you expect from a 27 years old still consider a rookie.

Why are you so negative?

Willingham is one of our best pure hitters....a career .918 OPS in the minors and also hit .410 in spring training. He has the makeup to be a .280-.300, 20-30 HR hitter for the next 5 years.
