July 6, 200620 yr I dont think Vargas was 'figured out'. The problem is that he doesn't have overpowering stuff, and since he kept falling behind in the counts he couldnt use his changeup effectively. Control was his problem this year. Fell behind in too many counts and then served up an average fastball right over the plate. Pitchers whose best pitch is the change need to throw strikes with the fastball early in the count to set up the changeup. Looks like they "figured" him out. No control, wait him out and then jump on his less than overpowering fastball. What else does "figuring out" someone means. You see what he has, what he does and then you adjust or figure out what to do against him. Now, if Jason can "figure out"how to fix his control and use his pitches to his advantage, then he may be able to adjust to what the hitters are doing against him. We all know, especially with young players, that the ones who succeed, with the exception of the unique talented ones, are the ones who make the adjustments. Me thinks we are just disagreeing on semantics. Regardless, hope Jason kicks ass and helps the team. Fortunately your wrong about what figuring out means. Figuring out means that Vargas has continued doing the same things he did when he was having success, but the hitters are now hitting well off him so he has to adjust. That isnt what has happened. Last year vargas was locating his pitches well, not getting behind in the counts. This year he hasnt been locating, and hasnt been doing the things he did last year while he was having success. So no, he hasnt been figured out, and Vargas has to work on his control to get back to how he was pitching last year. He doesnt need to make any new adjustments, he needs to regain what he had before. Thankfully Vargas hasnt been figured out yet and if he locates his pitches better will do fine

How unfortunate it would be if you weren't right. Well, right now Vargas is pitching and I hope they have forgotten how he pitches, especially with Zimmerman up now in the bottom of the 11th. Base hit, good thing they havent figured him out on a 3-1 pitch, zimmerman just got lucky, UNFORTUNATELY.
