July 11, 200620 yr Last year we had a thread for tracking them all. Curious how we are doing in the rounds if we are getting most of them or not.
July 11, 200620 yr Author thank you very much so Chris Coghlan is the only biggie we havent signed. A shame too he has great potential, I would love to have him on our team.
July 11, 200620 yr not that it particulary goes in here...but my lil cuz, Jeff Locke signed a contract just short of 700,000 with the bravos...not too shabby and sure beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick as they say

Scott Boras is his agent...sooo... :plain On the plus side though, Coghlan was not that highly ranked, and he is not the type of prospect who would go higher in the draft if he re-entered next year. Hope we can sign him to a reasonable contract.
July 11, 200620 yr Coughlan was the one that people were saying could possibly switch to catcher, right?
July 11, 200620 yr Coughlan was the one that people were saying could possibly switch to catcher, right? Doubt it. He played some catcher in High School, that is all.

From today's sun-sentinal - ALMOST DONE The Marlins have an agreement in principle with supplemental first-round draft pick Chris Coghlan of Mississippi. However, the deal is being held up for reasons that a source said don't have to do with money. The two sides are "very close to finalizing" the deal, the source said, but at this point "it's all about technicalities." The Marlins are one of the few teams that typically include language in their contracts with draftees that allows the club to recoup portions if not all of the bonus money should the player run afoul of club policy. That includes failed drug tests. High-powered agent Scott Boras is advising Coghlan, a former Cape Cod League batting champion. Coghlan, a third baseman who was the 36th overall pick in the June draft, is one of three unsigned players among the 14 supplemental first-rounders. The player drafted ahead of Coghlan signed for $925,000, so with baseball's slotting system he likely will receive a bonus in that same territory.
