Brett Sinkbeil

Featured Replies

Wow. Congrats Sinkbeil.

Is this a guy who will progress through the system fast perhaps? Kind of like Pelfrey for the Mets maybe?

They probably just want to see what he can do vs. better hitters. No reason to progress him fast with all the good young arms ahead of him.

Jason Vargas was rushed too soon. We still have guys like Volstad, Jose Garcia, Sean West, Gaby Hernandez, and Aaron Thompson ahead of him right now.

I can't see him getting a shot until 2008.

I wasnt saying to rush him, just a possibility.

Sinkbeil has the advantage of being older and more progressed by being a college pitcher, whereas Volstad, Thompson, West etc. have the advantage of an extra year in pro ball.

They should all be ready at around the same time if things go as planned I'd guess, right?

Well with the number he had in Jamestown the promotion wasn't soon enough...this kid absolutely dominated the NY-Penn league...good to see him getting a shot at Low A...

Congrats

The plan should be for Sinkbeil to start at Jupiter in the FSL next year, so the move to Greensboro now makes sense. Its possible he can move even faster than that, with the experience he has at a good level of college ball Beinfest and co won't be scared to be agressive with him.

My guess is that Sinkbeil may well get to AA before West, Thompson, Volstad etc. and in a way he should.

Sinkbeil assigned to Grasshoppers

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Florida Marlins announced today that 2006 First Round Draft pick Brett Sinkbeil has been added to the Greensboro Grasshoppers active roster.

A native of Sand Springs, Okla., the 6-foot-4, 185-pound right-hander was 5-1 with a 2.45 ERA in 11 starts (69.2 IP) during his junior season with Missouri State University. He complied a 19-14 record with a 3.55 ERA and 356 strikeouts during his three-year collegiate career.

Sinkbeil's addition to the Hoppers active roster brings the First Round Draft pick total to five.

"We are extremely pleased to have Brett join our team," said Grasshoppers President Donald Moore. "First Horizon Park is proving itself as a facility for young talent to develop and succeed in and we are delighted to be a part of that growth."

The Marlins have slated Sinkbeil to make his first start in a Greensboro uniform at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 17 when the Grasshoppers take on the Lakewood Blueclaws. For ticket information, please contact the Grasshoppers Box Office at 336-268-2255 or online at www.gsohoppers.com.

He looked pretty good tonight. May have been a little nervous in the first as he gave up a homer on his second pitch of the night.

He went 6 innings allowing 8 hits 0 walks and 2 runs (both solo shots) He had 3 or 4 Ks, I can't remember.

I liked his stuff a lot. His fastball definitely has some zip and solid movement on it. Topped out at 93 but roamed 90-92 most of the night. Got a ton of ground balls and two DPs (I think). His curve looked pretty good and kept the hitters off balance. He left them over the plate. Probably more than he wanted to at least. Change up was alright but got hit hard a couple times.

His wind up is interesting. Very slow and almost stops mid leg kick, but he was very consitent with it. Definitely a good start though. :thumbup

On the offensive side only one that really looked good was Andy Jenkins. Love this guy. He probably won't amount to anything worthwhile, but I've enjoyed watching him play this year.
