October 5, 200323 yr Friday, October 3, 2003 Associated Press TAMPA, Fla. -- Former Philadelphia Phillies catcher Darren Daulton was released from jail Friday after being arrested for an alleged violation of probation on a drunken driving conviction. Daulton, 41, was arrested Thursday. He posted $5,000 bond. Hillsborough County Sheriff's spokesman Rod Reder said a warrant for the three-time All-Star was issued after the violation was reported by the Salvation Army, which handles some area misdemeanor probation cases. Reder said he did not know what the violation was. Salvation Army officials refused to discuss the case. A Department of Corrections spokesman and Daulton's attorney, Jay Hebert, did not return phone calls Friday. Daulton was arrested on DUI charges on Jan. 3, his 41st birthday. In June, he was sentenced to a year of probation after pleading no contest. Daulton had also been arrested on a drunken driving charge after a wreck on his 39th birthday, later pleading to a reckless driving charge and being sentenced to six months probation. He was also arrested in Pinellas County in 1988 on a drunken-driving charge. His license was suspended for a year. He has been arrested twice in recent months on domestic violence-related charges, most recently being accused of disobeying a judge's order to stay away from his estranged wife. Daulton spent most of his 14-year career with the Phillies. He helped the Florida Marlins win the World Series in 1997 and was NL comeback player of the year that season. Daulton, who also made a World Series appearance with the Phillies in a 1993 loss against the Toronto Blue Jays, hit .245 in his career with 137 home runs and 588 RBIs. He served as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' bullpen coach in 2001.
