Posted November 14, 200618 yr I'm trying to not have any icons on my desktop and would like to only have text shortcuts. I've tried in the past to make transparent icons, but they never worked. My best case scenario would to eliminate the icons altogether. I'd rather not have to run a program to accomplish this. Does anyone know any tricks, knowledge, or an app that will help me with this?
November 14, 200618 yr Trying to hide some porn? :lol Anyways... Right click on all of the files on your desktop, go to properties, then the general tab, then check off the box next to "hidden," then go to My Documents>Tools>Folder Options>click on the View tab>check off "Do not show hidden files or folders">Hit "apply" you're done.
November 14, 200618 yr Author I'm not trying to hide anything, I'd just rather have text links with no icons. I know how to have nothing on my desktop, I just want to have text shortcuts.
November 15, 200618 yr Just make an icon in photoshop or another program that is clear, then set all your icons to that. Then all icons just show up as text, problem solved
November 15, 200618 yr Author You can't make transparent icons though, tried it. I just made the icons the same color as the background and lowered the icon size. It's not exactly what I wanted but it works.

I'd guess your best bet would be creating icons that match the background wallpaper you have.
November 16, 200618 yr Easiest way I can think of is make an image of a really small dot, the color would depend on your wallpaper, but do that.
November 16, 200618 yr Not sure if this is what you want but have you tried this? Open System Properties in Control Panel, choose the Advanced tab, and click Settings in the Performance section. Turn on the Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop option, and click Ok.
November 18, 200618 yr You might want to check out Windows powertoys -- they have a lot of cool and more advanced display options. That's how I got the recycle bin off my desktop completely. Google for tweakUI -- I believe that's the one you're looking for but there a bunch of different versions that let you manipulate different things. The best part is they're actually supported by Microsoft so you don't have to worry about voiding warranties of anything like that.
