Mets_bs
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/unfiltered/?p=103 Tony Massarotti of the Boston Herald got the story first, but I have more details on the specifics of the J.D. Drew physical. Drew took the physical shortly after the announcement of the deal in Orlando, but sources have told me that Drew showed problems in his shoulder that ?could shut down his power.? Drew had minor surgery on his shoulder after the 2005 season, so it?s possible that there?s more damage in there. It?s important to note that in free agent acquisitions, a team often does not have the benefit of requesting medical records from his previous team prior to signing. Speculation centers on the damage to Drew?s shoulder being more like Scott Rolen circa 2005. As Massarotti reports, it is more likely that the Red Sox get protection in the form of a very limited escape clause rather than scuttling the deal altogether. Somewhere, Bill Simmons just had someone kick him in the groin. What an idiot -- serves the Red Sox right for their underhanded 'recruiting' and Drew for being a money grubbing dick. Your accusation that the Red Sox have employed "underhanded recruiting" is far fetched but this latest news of JD Drew's trials and tribulations is not suprising. I believe I made had a post somewhere when they first acquired him that said something to the effect that this was a very risky scenario they were getting involved in. Dodger Nation is ROFL right now.
Beinfest4Prez
I like the Red Sox a lot but I just love it when something like this happens.
TSwift25
Matsuzaka should have Drew carry his bags and buy him dinner every road trip. If they didn't share the same agent, no way Drew gets that money or ends up in Boston.

Yeah, but when you are an injury prone player who has a great contract with a great organization and you void it in hopes of scraping more money from another team, it's an awful big risk to take. TSwift25
It's karma, he opted out of his deal to get more money, now after one injury plagued season (probably this one) he'll see all that money voided and have nothing.

They flat out told Drew while he was under contract with the Dodgers, that he would get more money if opted out. It's called tampering, it's illegal, and the only reason they didn't get in trouble was because the Dodgers opted not to file a formal complaint. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16103762/
