October 10, 200322 yr Since the Cubs and Marlins split Game 1 and 2, this is now a best of 5 series. Who ever wins 3 games first wins the series, it's as simple as that. And we have homefield advantage. The next 3 games will be played in Miami where we are red-hot, then the last two are played back in Chicago. My predictions: Game 3: Kerry Wood vs. Mark Redman Don't be surprised if our offense is shut down again by Wood. Although we will have home-field advantage, unless Redman steps up in a big way, Chicago will take this game. Cubs lead series 2-1 Game 4: Matt Clement vs. Dontrelle Willis Matt Clement is the worst of the Cubs strong starting rotation. The Fish need to take advantage of this opportunity. Willis came out strong in his last game both offensively and defensively. Matt Clement will be taken out early and the Cubs will have to go into their bullpen again. I think the Fish will take this one. Series tied 2-2 Game 5, 6, and 7; I don't know who's pitching. I think we'll take the last game in Miami, but there's no doubt in my mind we'll have to win this series in Chicago. A hard test. We need to take Sosa out of the ball game. He is hitting too many homers against us. We also need to pitch more carefully to THEIR A-Gon. He is red hot. I say we bench Alex Gonzales and move Cabrera to SS for the rest of the postseason. Bring Lowell back to 3rd and let him bat 4th or 5th. This is how I'd set the line-up: 1. Pierre CF 2. Castillo 2B 3. Pudge C 4. Lowell 3B 5. D-Lee 1B 6. Cabera SS 7. Encarnacion RF 8. Conine LF 9. Pitcher/PH (Lenny Harris, Hollandsworth, don't even think A-Gon) This is a pretty solid line-up. All of these guys are capable of hitting good. A-Gon has been pretty much an automatic out this entire postseason. Although he is good defensively, I think driving in Juan and Jeff are more important.
October 10, 200322 yr My prediction: 60,000 rabid fans (including myself) mess with Kerry Wood's head. He proceeds to throw a lot of balls. Guys walk. The Marlins get a few key hits here and there. Wood lets up 5 runs in 7 innings. Marlins win 6-4. And I don't AGon is going away this postseason, for better or worse. Til death do us part, and all that mess...Trader Jack may as well be married to him.
October 10, 200322 yr If the series is tied 2-2 it will most likely be Zambrano, Prior, Wood in games 5,6,7.
October 10, 200322 yr Kerry Wood + 65,000 fans = Rick Ankiel? just a thought... Maybe if you inserted Zambrano or Cruz I could maybe believe that but no way and I mean NO Way that happens to Wood. Wood is better than Mark Prior IMO
October 10, 200322 yr Kerry Wood + 65,000 fans = Rick Ankiel? just a thought... Maybe if you inserted Zambrano or Cruz I could maybe believe that but no way and I mean NO Way that happens to Wood. Wood is better than Mark Prior IMO Wood has the ability to go out there and throw a gem any day of the week. However, unlike Prior (or at least as far as I've seen), he's also got the ability to go out there and get lit up. He didn't pitch that well in the NLDS, the Braves just choked (who's surprised)... This is a more winnable game than Game 2 was for the Marlins.
October 10, 200322 yr Wood and Prior are both beatable. If Penny had pitched a good game, we would have been right in that Game 2. We did hit 2 jacks of Prior. And we had quite a few extra basehits early in the game on him. Wood is also beatable. He has somethin like 11 losses this season, correct? Heck, Brad Penny only had 10 this regular season.
October 10, 200322 yr Prior and Wood are not equal. Prior, like doublem23 said, is more consistent than Wood. Wood has major blowups hence his 11 losses. If I'm facing the Cubs in a one-game series, I'd prefer to face Wood instead of Prior. Technically, they are both beatable, but that doesn't mean the odds of beating each one is equal. You have better odds beating Wood than Prior. I'm looking for the Marlins to take the next two games because of this.
October 10, 200322 yr i didnt mean to come across as saying both pitchers are equally good. I think Prior is the better pitcher, and most experts would agree. But, what I am saying is that the Marlins can beat both of these pitchers, although, all we have to do is beat 1 of them, and finish off the Cubs when playing Zambrano/Estes/Clement.
October 10, 200322 yr Both are very beatable. But we need our pitching to step up and only give up a couple of runs and keep us in the game the whole time.
