March 1, 200719 yr I didn't say that the Marlins were injury free. All teams have injuries and a couple of you have come forth with what I agree are some key injuries. I said the Marlins were relatively lucky injury-wise....and I maintain that taking into account the best examples provided here...the team has been on the good side of injuries since their inception in 1993. Let's hope it continues for a long time. I don't understand what you mean at all then. It's arguable that we've seen injuries of severe nature to our most important players each of the last three seasons, last year excluded. 2005-Delgado battles recurring elbow issues, LoDuca and Castillo miss substantial amount of time with leg/hip issues. 2004-Castillo's hip, Beckett's blister's and oblique. 2003-Beckett's shoulder, Lowell's broken hand, AJ's TJ surgery. We haven't exactly been on the good side of the injury report. Maybe it will help you to understand if I bring up the 3 years you point out: 2003.....all key injuries...but who cares. We overcome them and win a championship !. No what if's. 2004....We weren't good enough to compete that year. The injuries you cite are thus meaningless 2005....This IMO is actually the best year to look at the effects of injury and performance for the Marlins. It's the one year that injuries may have kept us from the playoffs. 1 year out of 14, and even that 1 year is no outright disaster for injury. That's relatively lucky.
March 1, 200719 yr And just to continue, how many teams have a list this deep of players with significant elbow problems? AJ Burnett Tim Spooneybarger Chad Fox Logan Kensing Carlos Martinez Josh Johnson Tank (possibly) Just since 2003 and just off the top of my head. Winning the World Series one year despite the key injuries does not prove your point at all. The Cardinals were TERRIBLY unlucky last year with injuries, really hurt them right? You're basically taking the end product of one season and using it to justify the rest of the products. That's horribly misguided. The fact is there isn't a team other than maybe the Cubs (which, btw, made the NLCS in 2003 so they must be doing well as well) that has that long list of significant pitcher injuries.
March 1, 200719 yr I thought it was a shoulder problem with Tankersley. I think the thread title is wrong. Neither is very good, though shoulder injuries scare me a bit more. Hopefully this gets no worse than tendinitis and he's throwing in a few weeks and back on the mound by May 1st.
