What the hell has gotten into him?

 

He's hitting .340 and OPSing .907. Where did THAT come from?

He's still relatively young at 32, still in the late years of his prime. So it's not that surprising. Amazing what being sober will do. Numbers will likely fall down to his career averages though.

He wants to keep his bat in the lineup when and if Nick Johnson comes back.

He's still garbage defensively. Even if he's still blowing up when Johnson comes back, I'd be surprised if they didn't play Johnson regularly.

Major trade bait to an AL team in need of a DH at the deadline.
