But the inevitable occurred during the ninth inning of Saturday afternoon's 2-1 loss to the Tigers at Turner Field. After Brian McCann was ejected for arguing a called third strike, Cox emerged from the dugout and within a minute he was handed his 131st career ejection by plate umpire Chad Fairchild. Cox is now tied for the most career ejections with Hall of Fame manager John McGraw, whose total includes the 14 ejections he received as a player. Cox, who ranks fourth on the all-time managerial wins list, has received each of his career ejections as a manager. Many of them have come while protecting players like the usually-reserved McCann, who took definite objection to the called third strike. With the home crowd chanting his name, Cox didn't make much of a scene. After saying the magic words, he saw Fairchild give a less-than-demonstrative ejection signal. June 24, 200717 yr comment_909912 congrats to bobby cox! but seriously, bobby cox isn't really a hot head like sweet lou, he usually gets tossed for defending his players when they would have been tossed otherwise.
