Posted July 2, 200717 yr comment_914137 http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2922663 Luke Walton reached agreement Sunday with the Los Angeles Lakers on a six-year, $30 million contract after general manager Mitch Kupchak placed a call one minute after midnight to express the team's interest in retaining its best unrestricted free agent. "They called at the earliest possible moment, and we worked on it all day," agent Lon Babby said. "They wanted him back, and Luke wanted to be there. We wanted to make every effort to get an agreement before we went out and looked at any other teams." Another of Babby's clients, Grant Hill, had one of his more lucrative options taken away when the Toronto Raptors decided to spend their mid-level exception on Miami Heat sharpshooter Jason Kapono. Babby said Hill's list of possible teams now includes, in no particular order, Detroit, Miami, Phoenix, San Antonio and Orlando. "The financial considerations are fairly low on his list of priorities. He wants the opportunity to play on a championship team, and if he has to make a financial sacrifice, he would do that," Babby said. Hopefully he can stay healthy this year. July 2, 200717 yr comment_914138 That's a lot of money for Luke FREAKIN' Walton. I doubt Kobe'll be happy with the Lakers throwing all that money at Walton rather than a guy that can actually make a big difference. We couldn't do alot that would make Kobe happy at this point, short of trading for K.G. Dude needs to stop acting like he is the GM. The Lakers were actually playing really well until the injury bug hit like half the team last year. My head will explode if we get desperate and trade Odom and Bynum for O'Neal. July 2, 200717 yr comment_914140 I get what you're saying, but even so. There are quite a few guys on the market that would help LA more than little Walton. I guess I just dont see the total man love for Bynum I don't have total love for Bynum at all. In fact, I would have dealt him for Kidd in a heartbeat. However, I just don't see O'Neal as that much of an upgrade over Odom to give up Bynum. July 3, 200717 yr comment_914146 Jermaine O'Neal silently became one of the more overrated players in the league. The guy is going to make 20 million next year and he is barely a 20-10 player who has had trouble staying healthy the last 3 years. Don't believe the hype. Agreed 100%, and that's exactly why we better not get desperate.
