Kei Igawa claimed by Padres

Featured Replies

Who cares about a blow-up like Igawa, he is just another mistake by the yankees

When I read the first post I was checking to see if there was a previous page you were responding to where people were discussing Kei Igawa

Same here.

I thought there might have been a yankee fan on the board who wanted to know.

and when i said who, i meant what team.

so the padres have to pick up his hugely overpaid contract? or because he was released does he sign a new one with the padres?

I don't think Igawa was released

because he is claimed, the Yankees could let the Padres have him (with the Padres paying his salary) or they can negotiate a trade

here is his deal: 5 years/$20M (2007-11)

If he can sort out his control problems he'll be a nice junkballer to have in that rotation with Peavy and Young.

He was not released, yankees will not let him go without a trade due to the 26 million dollar posting fee they had to pay his japanese leagues team to nogotiate with him.

that's hilarious. and why i thought his contract was so high. i guess 5 yrs/$20M isn't so bad for a team with some actual dough. but just great stuff that the yankees wasted that much on the guy. i'm sure his former japanese team is laughing.

Actually, his Japanese team probably hope he flops and comes back ASAP. A free 26 million for them.

I don't see why the Padres of all teams would try to block a Yankee trade, unless he was rumored to be coming to the NL west. There's no way the Padres were really trying to pick him up for that price.
