August 14, 200719 yr SEOUL, South Korea (Aug. 13) - Five family members fell to their deaths from a Ferris wheel after the car they were riding in unexpectedly overturned Monday at an amusement park in the southern city of Busan, police said. Four people, including a 68-year-old woman and a 7-year-old boy, died at the scene after they fell 65 feet, police said. A 28-year-old woman who was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment died later, police said. There were seven relatives riding in the Ferris wheel car, but the other two were able to cling to handholds and avoid injury, police officer Yoon Jae-man said. Jeon Un-sung, 70, who was rescued from the ill-fated car, said that "the slowly moving gondola suddenly stopped and turned upside down and family members fell in a flash" when the window behind the seats fell out of the car, according to Yonhap news agency. The 216-foot-high "Giant Wheel" had 42 cars. It was among 30 some rides with the World Carnival mobile amusement park that opened in Busan last month for a 40-day run after arriving from Hong Kong, Yonhap reported. Police were still investigating the accident and interviewing witnesses, Yoon said. The amusement park did not answer repeated calls.
August 15, 200719 yr anytime you see a 'traveling' amusement park, you should just turn around and never look back. that's a crazy death, i can't even imagine it just flipping out of nowhere. very sad.
August 15, 200719 yr Yeah, generally i don't do any rides at any carnivals....especially when the carney doesn't have all his teeth
August 15, 200719 yr I almost died while on a Ferris Wheel once. The cars were rocking back and forth and at one point my sister was lifted off her seat. An experience I'd like to never go through again.
August 21, 200719 yr I've never agreed to go on this things. When I want an amusement park, I just go to good ole' safe Disney.
