August 29, 200719 yr Alejandro De Aza 0-4 GW RBI on a sac fly in 11th Jeremy Hermida 2-5 2 R 2 RBI 2-run HR Alfredo Amezaga GW R in 11th From floridamarlins.com: MIAMI -- Career RBI No. 2 for rookie Alejandro De Aza turned out to be a big one. De Aza lifted a walk-off sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the 11th inning, sending the Marlins to a 4-3 win over the Braves in front of 11,539 at Dolphin Stadium on Tuesday. The Marlins loaded the bases with one out off Braves reliever Oscar Villarreal in the 11th, setting up De Aza lifting a first pitch deep to right field. Matt Diaz caught the ball on the warning track, and Alfredo Amezaga raced home with the decisive run. Amezaga walked with one out and went to third on Jeremy Hermida's double. Matt Treanor was intentionally walked to put the Braves in a bind with one out. De Aza, who has 107 career at-bats, now has two RBIs. The Marlins won for the second time in their past 14 games. Byung-Hyun Kim, who tossed a scoreless 11th, picked up the win. The Marlins improved to 5-5 in extra-inning games this season. Six Marlins pitchers combined for a season-high 19 strikeouts, topping the 16 turned in against the Rockies on Aug. 1. The franchise record for strikeouts in a game is 22, on July 6, 2005, in a 12-inning affair with the Rockies. Hermida, who had a career best 10-game hitting streak snapped on Monday, connected on a two-run homer off John Smoltz in the second inning. Armando Benitez entered in the eighth inning with the Marlins ahead by two. But after walking Kelly Johnson to open the inning, Chipper Jones connected on an opposite-field, two-run homer with the count full, pulling Atlanta even. Benitez thought he had Jones struck out on the previous pitch, a fastball low and away. But home-plate umpire Doug Eddings called the pitch a ball. Benitez's next offering was belted over the wall in left. It was Jones' fifth homer of the season -- and 32nd of his career -- against the Marlins. Lifetime off Benitez, Jones is 3-for-12 with two home runs.
August 29, 200719 yr I voted for Hermida. He's still a major problem defensively overall though.....but his offense has improved greatly even though the team is playing horribly as a whole.
August 29, 200719 yr Author I may never recover from the fact that some people voted for Turkmenistan, Qatar, and Myanmar.
