September 2, 200718 yr we all know treanor is better than olivo and has proved that in 2007. at the very least, even if he isnt "better," he has produced more and errored less and deserves to play more. plus he can catch! omg, what an idea. a catcher who can do just that. so then we finally hear that treanor is playing really well and will start to catch in place of olivo more frequently. and the very next day, olivo starts? and then again? then treanor typically catches kim, and then olivo plays today? what the hell is that? olivo can't play on day games on sunday and then more of the other games during the week. fredi hasn't made a change at all and i'm sure matty is wondering what is going on himself. could this have anything to do with olivo's whining to the media about being a scapegoat. normally i would ignore stuff like that and i would think the manager would also, but we all know how much of a sensitive softy fredi can be. what's going on here?

The answer is that you aren't paying attention and didn't feel like looking any of this up before posting this. The decision was made before the Aug 23 game. Olivo's first start after that was on the 25th, not the next game. He also hasn't played back to back games since then. This is Olivo's 4th start since the announcement, Treanor has had 6. So there, that's what Fredi's deal is.
September 2, 200718 yr Author that certainly puts me in my place and i appreciate it. the fact that it's 6-4 is why i thought it was too close (which it is), if not 6-4 in favor of olivo. the fact that it's too close is why i felt that i didn't need to look it up. i love matty treanor and i'm looking for him to play more than this. olivo got much more than a 60-40 split while he was the "starter," and so should matty, especially after such an announcement.
September 3, 200718 yr Something tells me this is Beinfest's call because Olivo is the third highest paid Marlin (which some people thought was a huge mistake from the moment it was announced). And something tells me it has alot more to do with what most teams do. You don't start a catcher on a day game following a night game. No need to bash upper management or ownership on this one no matter how much you hate them. It's pure baseball logic. But Matt did come in, did get a hit, and then almost got knocked right out of the game in the same half inning. Actually, if we had a legitimate player to catch after the replacement (who was left? Hammer is in the dugout because of a bad back or maybe switch Jake just because he was drafted as a catcher??), he would have been knocked out of the game. I like Matt and his blue collar attitude, but he needs to stop trying to bowl over opposing catchers. He doen's fair well in those collisions.
