September 17, 200718 yr he was 12-12.....Where was your boy Vargas? Where was Brian Moehler? Al Leiter? Don't go blaming that season on AJ.
September 17, 200718 yr he was 12-12.....Where was your boy Vargas? Where was Brian Moehler? Al Leiter? Don't go blaming that season on AJ. AJ Burnett last 7 starts in 2005: 0-6, 38.1 IP, 25 ER, 5.88 ERA Way to carry a team.
September 17, 200718 yr Mike Lowell hit .236 Jason Vargas lost 4 straight decisions. The offense didn't show up in any of those last six outings scoring only 5 runs once.
September 17, 200718 yr Mike Lowell hit .236 Jason Vargas lost 4 straight decisions. The offense didn't show up in any of those last six outings scoring only 5 runs once. And you're point is? I'm not blaming him entirely for what happened the last month of the 2005 season but he deserves some of the blame. LOL at throwing Vargas into this discussion. Dude was a few months removed from AA while Burnett had been in the majors since 1999. BTW, a guy like Burnett shouldn't need 5 runs to win a game.
Just about every player will have a slump during a season. If you look at the entirety of his '05 season he had a good year... 207 innings / 6.5 inninps per start / .344 ERA / .646 OPS allowed.

(Thus my question)

He took shots at a manager who the GM wanted to fire during the season but didn't because the owner overruled him and who in fact got fired, or was asked to retire, if you prefer, a few days after AJ's comments. Should he have done it? No. But I have no problems with anyone who took shots at Jack in '05.

September 17, 200718 yr not sure why focus on 2005, especially since AJ was pretty much a bust down here and was not able to delivery on the promise. Yes, he had periods of brilliance, but was a huge disappointment
September 18, 200718 yr Maybe the lightbulb finally went on? About time. . . that bulb must be so old Thomas Edison had it in his lab.........
September 19, 200718 yr Someone could have been queefing the ball up there and put up those numbers against this corpse of a team.
